The Qavardu Workshop Battle Nest,[1] colloquially referred to in the Jiralhanae tongue as the "Grave-maker" is a type of tanklike siegework gunship.[2][3]

Design[edit]

Gravemakers were manufactured by the Sovo-lot-kesh Armory and developed by the Qavardu workshop.[1] Gravemaker are rugged, nest-shaped gun platforms that are capable of carrying groups of individuals for surface deployment. They consist of a main body and arms. Gravemakers are crudely fused together flying craft that are plated over with heavy armor shielding. Downward-facing engines lift them into the air in sputtering and roaring bursts, which can sometimes be a struggle due to the ships' weight. They are equipped with heavy-grade spike cannons that provide substantial firepower.[2]

Operational history[edit]

Deployed as the Jiralhanae equivalent of the M312 Elephants, Gravemakers were rarely used by the Jiralhanae prior to end of the Human-Covenant War. Gravemakers continued to be used in the Post-Covenant War conflicts by the Banished and various pirates and mercenaries.

The Voice of Maardoth made use of them during the Carrow Conflict in September 2558. During Operation: BUZZHAWK, Gravemakers and Phantoms defended the Jiralhanae Varric-pattern heavy cruiser Foebane from attack by the Surakan Militia Volunteers. However, the human forces succeeded in destroying the cruiser.[3]

Several Banished Gravemakers participated in the Battle of Boundary with several detachments of surdkars searching for Chloe Hall in them.[4] James Solomon managed to take one out using an M99 Stanchion and quickly dispatched the surviving crewmembers aside from Arxus who took James down and abducted Chloe.[5] After rescuing Chloe, James attempted to escape with her in the Cataphract, only to have the other Gravemakers catch up. Gravely injured and knowing that the surdkars wouldn't stop searching for them, James stayed behind while Chloe escaped in his ship. One Gravemaker broke away and headed for the ship, but it was attacked and destroyed by panthedrons. With the remaining Gravemakers and surdkars surrounding him, James activated his armor's fail-safe detonation system. The explosion killed James and the surdkars and destroyed the Gravemakers.[6]
