UNSC Alpina was a corvette of unspecified class serving in the UNSC Navy.[1]

Service history[edit]

During the early Human-Covenant War, the ship was dispatched to Netherop to conduct a rescue mission for Lieutenant Commander Amalea Petrov and her band of marooned survivors on the planet. However, by this time, the Defenders of the Sanctum - a Covenant-aligned faction of Sangheili zealots - had taken control of the Inner Sanctum and the Divine Hand superweapon inside it. For the first three days of the operation, Alpina worked to begin clearing the orbital mine shell of Jaet-pattern plasma torpedoes surrounding the world left behind by the Fleet of Swift Justice in 2526 to permanently imprison Nizat 'Kvarosee and the Defenders of the Sanctum on the planet.[1]

The flashes in the sky of the mines' detonation caught the attention of Petrov and her troops, leading to them attempting to establish communications with the corvette. On the third morning of the operation, Alpina promised it would be deploying a Pelican dropship to retrieve the troops before the next evening. However, the corvette's presence was noticed by 'Kvarosee, who used the Divine Hand to destroy Alpina and drag pieces of its wreckage down onto the planet's surface. The destruction of the Alpina confirmed to Petrov and her followers that they had to take the Sanctum if they ever wanted to leave Netherop, beginning multiple decades of guerilla warfare between the two factions on Netherop's surface.[1]
