Petty Officer, Third Class Pauley was a UNSC Navy crewman assigned to the UNSC Pillar of Autumn in 2552. When the Autumn was shot down over Installation 04 that year, Pauley was one of the survivors of the crash and found his way to Alpha Base.

He was a friend of Petty Officer, Third Class Cho and Tech Officer First Class Murphy. At Alpha Base, he worked in one of the caverns and monitored radio traffic with his two Naval buddies, answering requests to land or refuel from Pelicans. The last call he got was from Charlie 217's Lieutenant Rick Hale,[1] who was used by Zuka 'Zamamee as a decoy to land his team of SpecOps Elites.[2] Pauley and his three friends, along with many other Naval Technicians, were killed by 'Zamamee with an Energy Sword.[3]
