The CAA Heavy Burden (hull classification symbol: CFM-88) is a former Colonial Administration Authority Springhill-class mining ship, repurposed for use as an ordnance transport by the United Nations Space Command during the Human-Covenant War.[1][2]

Background[edit]

A very old vessel, the ship hails from the Unified Earth Government's colonial period.[3] At some point during the war a HRUNTING/YGGDRASIL Mark II (D) Geyrion powered exoskeleton was put under construction aboard the vessel. The ship was damaged during the Battle of Kholo in 2539 and later entered a slowly degrading orbit around a nearby gas giant. The vessel's automated systems continued to function despite the ship's impending destruction.[2][4][5]

In 2558, part of the ship was simulated on the UNSC Infinity's training deck as a practice environment for the latter vessel's SPARTAN-IV complement.[6]

Production notes[edit]

  • This vessel is the setting for the Halo 4 multiplayer map Adrift.
  • In the E3 2012 build of Adrift, the mining vessel's hull classification symbol was FFG-88, designating it as a frigate.
  • Though the ship was rendered derelict long before the end of the Human-Covenant War, the hull bears the post-war version of the UNSC insignia. This could be attributed to a quirk of the War Games simulation.
