Activation Index The Key To Halo

Igniting The Rings Every Halo Installation maintains an Activation index, a key held in the ring's library facility. Retrievd by a reclaimer, the Index can be brought to Halo's control room and reunified with the core. This process validates activation of the ring, arming the local Halo to be fired and readying the others to fire in sequence, essentially covering the entire galaxy in a blanket of destructive energy. When activated, Halo destroys all sentient life; therefore it was reserved as a weapon of last resort against the Flood.

Rise of Humanity

Human Expansion

When overpopulation threatened Earth, the historic cradle of humanity, mankind began expanding into their own solar system, developing oclonies on neighbouring planets, moons and asteroids. Though the initial years of exploration and development proved fruitful, it was not long before infighting began. Ideologies violently clashed and eventually led to a series of brutal conflicts collectively known as the Interplanetary War. This bitter period became the crucible for the birth of the United Nations Space Command (UNSC), what would become mankind's primary defensive arm in the years to come.

The New Threat

To overcome the mounting Insurrection, the UNSC created the SPARTAN program. Spartans were fully augmented super-soldier utilizing advanced powered assault armor. With the invasion of the Covenant, a deadly alien force bent on human destruction, these Spartans became mankind's best hope for survival.

A Hero Emerges

One Spartan, above all others, rose to embody this hope; the Master Chief. As the military colony of Reach fell, a lone ship carried this Spartan to an alien ringworld, which would begin unravel an ancient secret and unlock the key to humanity's victory against the Covenant.

With extremely advanced technology and military power, this new thread could single-handedly invade and wipe out entire colonies. The Covenant were relentless and merciless, seeking nothing less than the end of human existence. The UNSC fought back for almost thirty years, narrowly escaping extinction.

The UNSC

Mission

From warship duels to close-quarters combat, the United Nations Space Command serves as Earth's sword and shield among the stars. For over four centuries this organisation has functioned as the military arm of the Unified Earth Government (UEG), deploying across interstellar space to explore new worlds, quell rebellion and be a bulwark against the advances of hostile alien invaders.

History

The UNSC was established in 2163 to support and defend the Unified Earth Government during the Interplanetary War, ensuring the security of its member states and territories. It would eventually turn to face the threat of widespread colonial instability well outside our solar system in 2491, in the form of the Insurrection, before eventually rising the fight the Covenant in 2525, a vast and lethal enemy comprised of several aliens species and unparalleled technological power.

DEFEND
No Cost Too High
The peril that resides among the stars is great. When threats arise, whether foreign or domestic, the UNSC is the first to respond. By air, on the ground, or in space, the UNSC's primary goal is the protection of mankind.

History

In the late 23rd century, humanity's greatest minds developed a method for entering slipstream space, a compressed dimensions that would allow passage across the great expanse of interstellar space. This eventually led to the production of translight engines capable of opening rifts into slipspace for starships to travel through. The massive colonizaion effort that followed was romantically referred to as the Domus Diaspora.

SLIPSPACE
SWIFT INTERSTELLAR TRAVEL
The hyper-compressed multidimensional domain that allows starships and information to travel immense distances in rea lspace over a truncated period of time.

The Origin of Translight Engines
In the late 23rd century, Tobias Shaw and Wallace Fujikawa designed a machine that could generate temporal rifts by means of a rapid acceleration of particles. These rifts could be manipulated to send massive starships across the large expanses of space to destinations many light years away. Thus was born the Shaw-Fujikawa Translight Engine.

If it hadn't been for the invention of the translight engine, humanity would still be tethered to its own sun and its own handful of terrestrial worlds. The opening of such incredible new horizons is likely why most historians believe that this was the most significant technological achievement in human history.

COLONIZATION & INSURRECTION

History

With colonial expansion well beyond their nascent solar system, humanity began to spread out among the stars, yet it did not take long for old animosities to come alive again. Only a short century after the first wave of colonization, war once again threatened human existence.

SPJ-063

CAA
COLONIAL ADMINISTRATION AUTHORITY Established in 2310, the CAA was designed to provide governance to the burgeoning colonization effort; its vast and agile policing arm was known as the Colonial Military Authority (CMA).

The CMA developed military facilities on many distant colonies, effectively providing security and protection for humanity's first wave of pioneers.

Though early expansions efforts were meager and consisted of farms and mining networks, it wasn't long before vast metropolitan complexes emerged.

While none could still rival Earth in scale or scope, many of the colonies were shimmering testaments to human ingenuity, featuring impressive skylines and vast cityscapes.

Though many worlds existed with minimal CMA presence, local governments facilitating the bulk of the colony's security, some proved resistant and even defiant to military attention.

When corruption was discovered in the CMA, it was quickly disbanded and the UNSC began engaging these threats, taking control of colonial bases, launch sites and shipyards.

ARB-064

REBELLION
UNREST IN THE COLONIES
In the late 25th century, colonial factions violenetly rose up against Earth, desiring to stop what they claimed was brutal imperialism. These actions led to the insurrection, a civil war so volatile it would bring the survival of the human race into question.

THE FALL OF REACH

History

The colony of Reach was not only home to millions, but held the UNSC's most powerful military complex. The planet's brutal fall to the Covenant in 2552, was the darkest hour in the war.

Hidden in its wilderness outlands was Reach's communication relay, the first place the Covenant struct, severing the colony's ability to call for help.

The SPARTAN-II program was activated by ONI on the planet Reach. Their extensive training took place in the planet's Highlound Mountain ranges, most of which was reduced to glass by the Covenant.

Reach has two moons in its orbit - Csodaszarvas and Turul - as well as a vast military network high above the planet, largely composed of shipyards, anchor sites and orbital weapon platforms.

CAPTURE THE FLAG
FALL OF REACH
SPARTAN WAR GAMES
Long before the Covenant found the colony of Reach, it had served as a training bed for the best of the UNSC's soldiers, including the Spartans. Hidden along the western ridge of the Highland Mountains was the elusive Longhorn Valley, containing a sprawling river network and creche of verdant forests which served as the proving grounds for the SPARTAN-II program's candidate.s This legendary UUNSC flag was the sought-after prize during the Spartans' heated Capture the Flag sessions, and was recovered from Reach during the final hours of the Covenant's invasion.

SPACE WARFARE

History

Much of the war took place in the vast expanse around worlds, where the UNSC's capital ships collided head on with Covenant invaders, massive vessels unleashing torrents of firepower at each other until the victors limped away amid a field of debrus and bodies.

The Covenant's navy was unquestioningly superior to the UNSC's in speed and power, but when it came to tenacity and tactics, humanity's resolve was without equal.

HHS-087

DESTRUCTION
CAMPAIGN OF ANNIHILATION Covenant capital ships utilised a surgically obliterative method of plasma bombardment that became known as "glassing," turning entire worlds into graveyards.

NAVAL WARFARE
FORTUNE FAVORS THE BOLD Despite being outgunned and outnumbered, UNSC vessels relied on unconventional strategies to survive. The war's toll for the Navy was high, but rewarded the brave and the bold.

GROUND COMBAT

History

When the Covenant broke through orbital defensive lines and made landfall, the UNSC's ground forces were a colony's last defense against the enemy's assault.

DEPLOYMENT
