Forums: Index Archive Wiki background update
Monaco.png

As a response to this forum, I took the initiative and scour the internet for good background images... with the help of several few individuals of course. All of the files can be located here.

If you want to see how it displays in the wiki, just copy the following and add them in your halopedia.css page:

For this image:
body {
   background: #FFFFFF url(images/archive/a/a0/Headertest.jpg) repeat-x left top;
}

#siteNotice {
   background: #FFFFFF url(images/archive/b/b9/Headertest-sn.jpg) repeat-x scroll -231px -95px !important;
}
For this image:
body {
   background: #FFFFFF url(images/archive/a/a0/20110825162728!Headertest.jpg) repeat-x left top;
}

#siteNotice {
   background: #FFFFFF url(images/archive/b/b9/20110828142622!Headertest-sn.jpg) repeat-x scroll -231px -95px !important;
}
For this image:
body {
   background: #FFFFFF url(images/archive/a/a0/20110825162527!Headertest.jpg) repeat-x left top;
}

#siteNotice {
   background: #FFFFFF url(images/archive/b/b9/20110828142558!Headertest-sn.jpg) repeat-x scroll -231px -95px !important;
}
For this image:
body {
   background: #FFFFFF url(images/archive/a/a0/20110825154206!Headertest.jpg) repeat-x left top;
}

#siteNotice {
   background: #FFFFFF url(images/archive/b/b9/20110828142538!Headertest-sn.jpg) repeat-x scroll -231px -95px !important;
}
For this image:
body {
   background: #FFFFFF url(images/archive/a/a0/20110716172439!Headertest.jpg) repeat-x left top;
}

#siteNotice {
   background: #FFFFFF url(images/archive/b/b9/20110828142507!Headertest-sn.jpg) repeat-x scroll -231px -95px !important;
}
For this image:
body {
   background: #FFFFFF url(images/archive/a/a0/20110716172307!Headertest.jpg) repeat-x left top;
}

#siteNotice {
   background: #FFFFFF url(images/archive/b/b9/20110828142439!Headertest-sn.jpg) repeat-x scroll -231px -95px !important;
}

Of course, if anyone has a better image, they can upload it to the wiki. Remember to resize the image to 1920 x 193 pixels. :)

So, which one looks nicer to replace the wiki's old background? :D — subtank 23:40, 30 August 2011 (EDT)

The Tempest one works best. The first one didn't show up in my CSS when I tried it and two and three reveal a white outline around the logo. On the topic of the logo, is that changing too? Also, if we'd like to nominate one that isn't on the wiki, do we simply upload it and add a link or is there a different procedure?--Soul reaper 00:44, 31 August 2011 (EDT)
You would need to purge your browser's cache to see the differences. For the logo, I think that would stay... as MC is the mascot for the Halo franchise. If you want to upload another background, just upload it to the wiki. Make sure to resize the image to 1920 x 193 pixels.— subtank 00:49, 31 August 2011 (EDT)

That's each individual one and the code for the css. Tell me what you think--Soul reaper 02:32, 31 August 2011 (EDT)

Uh, the ones with "-sn" will not work. You would need to create the file yourself. :P — subtank 02:38, 31 August 2011 (EDT)
I personally prefer some of the images from Forge World and Tempest, particularly this, this and this one. I think the combination of elements emblematic to the franchise, such as a Halo ring and Forerunner structures is such an iconic image it would be ideal for the banner, much more so than generic scenery from Tsavo Highway. --Jugus (Talk | Contribs) 03:00, 31 August 2011 (EDT)

To be honest. The Forge World images look very nice. As per Jugus, the Forge World images definitely have the Halo-feel in them. Nanosoldier

Does this system not work well with Chrome? The bar that has the "Profile" and "Log Out?" links has been shunted down the page slightly, and the "Discussion", "Edit", "History" and "More Actions" tabs have been hidden from view, so I can't edit (I'm doing this on Internet Explorer).--The All-knowing Sith'ari 10:01, 31 August 2011 (EDT)
It looks normal in my Chrome. Perhaps by uploading a screenshot might help in fixing your problem?— subtank 14:41, 31 August 2011 (EDT)
Here's the problem, Subtank. This is becoming a theme with me.--The All-knowing Sith'ari 15:09, 31 August 2011 (EDT)

Maybe we could have a week where we try one theme for one day, another theme for another day, and see which one users liked the best? Tuckerscreator(stalk) 15:11, 31 August 2011 (EDT)

I personally find this image the best--20110825154206!Headertest.jpg --ハローファン (H1234-NET) 00:07, 1 September 2011 (EDT)

Agreed. It shows the beautiful nature on Halo :3 The one with trees is a bit dull, while the tempest one isn't iconic enough. Just saying. :D —S331 (When I played Halo: CE, we didn't have any fancy-shmancy armor abilities...) 08:54, 1 September 2011 (EDT)
That one is the best I reckon as well, but I also reckon that it would be better if the Forerunner structure were on the left-hand side instead. Nohomers48 00:14, 7 September 2011 (EDT)
Yeah:) I am currently using that css.--ハローファン (H1234-NET) 00:30, 7 September 2011 (EDT)

I am between two images, the one above and this one. They are very similar (beautiful scenery, the Installation in the background and forerunner structures), but I think the first one depicts all those things better.ShadowDancer |contribs| 04:05, 7 September 2011 (EDT)

How about something like this image

body {
   background: #FFFFFF url(images/c/ce/BGHeadertest2.jpg) repeat-x left top;
}

#siteNotice {
   background: #FFFFFF url(images/a/a1/BGHeadertest2-sn.jpg) repeat-x scroll -231px -95px !important;
}

or this image?

body {
   background: #FFFFFF url(images/a/a4/BGHeadertest3.jpg) repeat-x left top;
}

#siteNotice {
   background: #FFFFFF url(images/9/95/BGHeadertest3-sn.jpg) repeat-x scroll -231px -95px !important;
}

--Soul reaper 23:01, 23 September 2011 (EDT)

I'd really like to nominate this image

body {
   background: #FFFFFF url(images/a/a5/BGHeadertest.jpg) repeat-x left top;
}

#siteNotice {
   background: #FFFFFF url(images/d/d1/BGHeadertest-sn.jpg) repeat-x scroll -231px -95px !important;
}

I think it's a beautiful image that works really well, captures a lot of the Halo feeling and even loops really well in the unlikely chance that someone will have such a large screen/zoom out so far--Soul reaper 04:07, 25 September 2011 (EDT)

This image is a slightly modified version of the above, changed to include a Halo ring.

body {
   background: #FFFFFF url(images/4/4c/BGHeadertestMOD.jpg) repeat-x left top;
}

#siteNotice {
   background: #FFFFFF url(images/5/5f/BGHeadertestMOD-sn.jpg) repeat-x scroll -231px -95px !important;
}

I hope these images will be taken into consideration--Soul reaper 22:39, 25 September 2011 (EDT)

I realise its been a while since this was brought up. I've informed the rest of the administration about it, so we should get some more feedback on this pretty soon, including a final decision on the new background pic. That decision will be taken as per a majority opinion/vote, but remember, you can always customize the look for yourself via your personal css page, in the case you may be dissatisfied about it or just want to make change for yourself :) Regards, - Nìcmávr (Tálk) 10:15, 13 October 2011 (EDT)
