"It's because I'm a soldier I'll argue for peace. I know the value of peace better than the average civilian ever will. I know it's worth doing everything you can to secure it."
— Lamar to Ellis Gass.[3]

Lamar Edwards is a former Orbital Drop Shock Trooper and vice-governor of Suraka under Ellis Gass.[1][3]

Biography[edit]

Human-Covenant War[edit]

Lamar served as an ODST during the Human-Covenant War.[1] He evidently had a position of some command, as indicated by his comments about sending soldiers to their deaths.[3]

Pre-Carrow Conflict[edit]

After returning to Carrow with the rest of the Surakan refugees, Lamar garnered enough political presence to make a gubernatorial bid possible.[3] He instead chose to be the running mate of Ellis Gass in an election against the incumbent Kait Adelie. Together the were elected as Vice-Governor and Governor of Suraka, respectively.[1]

Carrow Conflict[edit]

Jiralhanae invasion[edit]

At the onset of the Carrow Conflict, Lamar arrived in the parking garage of the Wulandari Building via Warthog immediately after Ellis. They descended into the command bunker situated underneath the building.[1] Together with Generals Grace, Kapoor, and Aru, they worked to organize a response to the Voice of Maardoth incursion into the city and handle the civilian refugee situation.[3] He also confronted Ellis on the rooftop of the Wulandari Building because he believed that she was putting herself in unnecessary danger, but he was reassured and sent back to the bunker.[4] Later, Lamar and Travis Pope informed Ellis that her son Jeff had been killed in action.[5] After this point, Lamar's insistence that the Surakan Militia Volunteers should focus on evacuating civilians began to put him at odds with Ellis, who favored launching an attack on the Jiralhanae positions.[6] This tension came to a head when Lamar held an unprompted meeting with Ellis and the generals to use recently discovered information on the Voice of Maardoth's motives to support an evacuation effort. However, this meeting only served to alienate him further from Ellis and turn the generals against him.[7] He therefore was unable to divert forces from Operation: BUZZHAWK and would have been forced to resign from his office if the Sharquoi had not attacked.[8][9]

Sharquoi attack[edit]

As the Sharquoi massed out of the Forerunner facility, Lamar extracted Ellis from the site in a Pelican, killing a Sharquoi with a rocket launcher. He then accompanied her to question the detained Gray Team and was present in the command bunker during the attempted assassination of Hekabe.[10][11] After this plan failed, Lamar finally convinced the governor to evacuate the city. Lamar took control of this operation and the wider Surakan Militia Volunteers, devoting every resource to evacuating civilians from the city into the desert.[12] He later allocated a Pelican and a squad of militia members to assist with Ellis's plan to disconnect Hekabe from the Sharquoi Network.[13]

Post-Carrow Conflict[edit]

Lamar was made the Governor of Suraka following the conclusion of the Carrow Conflict and the death of Ellis Gass.[2]

Personality and traits[edit]

Lamar has green eyes and keeps his hair in a military-style buzzcut. He also is described as having scarred and weathered hands.[1] Mentally, he is clearly haunted by what he had witnessed during his time in the ODSTs, as he refrains from talking about his experiences in the war and indicates that he has dreams where he sees dead bodies. These memories seem to be the main driving force behind his pacifist impulses.[6]
