THIS IS NOT AN EASTER EGG.[edit]

This glitch, like several others, has been misclassified as an Easter Egg. It is clearly not an easter egg. However, if a theory of mine is right, it's also not a glitch...

I theorize -- I don't claim to be right -- that this is intentional... I believe that the Drop Pod was coded as a vehicle; when the Elites are dropped, they first enter the vehicle, and when it lands, they're coded to exit it. Bungie simply used existing functionality to lock them in place inside the pod and force them into the "Hey, dude, I'm riding in a drop pod" pose. Also, it would've prevented odd AI glitches (imagine Elites trying to fire on the Flood from inside a drop pod, or tossing Plasma Grenades if Catch is active).

Even if that's not true, it's still clearly not an easter egg. It doesn't bear the hallmarks of other easter eggs (no messages, not obviously an easter egg once you discover it, not obviously intended to be found by someone).
