The UNSC Musashi was a carrier in service with the UNSC Navy during the Human-Covenant War.

Background[edit]

The Musashi was one of the hundreds of ships that was present at the Fall of Reach on August 30, 2552. While moving to cover Reach's orbital defense platforms, Musashi was hit by an energy projector from a Covenant warship. The beam severed the Musashi amidships, instantly putting her out of the fight. The aft section's engines were still burning even after it was severed from the rest of the ship.[2]

Etymology[edit]

Musashi was likely named in honor of the Musashi Province in ancient Japan, or Miyamoto Musashi, a master swordsman and one of the greatest warriors of his era. However, it was more likely named in reference to the Japanese battleship Musashi of the Second World War. Along with her sister ship Yamato, she holds the record for being the heaviest battleships in history, and also hold the record for holding the largest naval guns ever mounted on a warship. Musashi was sunk during the Battle of Leyte Gulf.
