This subpage provides guidance on articles covering the subject of "ships". There are two separate but similar layout for articles focusing on ships.

General

At the start of the article, the relevant infobox should be added along with relevant fields filled in. The introductory paragraph should include the ship's title. It should also provide information on the manufacturer and designer as well as its combat roles. It is not necessary to list out events it participated in.

Ship class

Summary

The focus of a "Ship class" article is to provide information on the ship class. It is therefore not necessary to provide information on individual ships of the ship class. For individual ships, see below.

Layout

Please note that this order is not definite: sometimes, editors might find it appropriate to move sections around to ensure effective presentation. In cases where there are insufficient information, it might be just appropriate to use "Overview" instead of a tree of sections.

The format for listing ships should be as follows:

This section on "Ship class" is not confined to spaceships; it is also for any vessel capable of flight such as the Pelican dropship and Seraph fighter (and for watercraft in limited circumstances).

Individual ship

Summary

The focus of a "individual ship" article is to provide information on the ship class. For ship class, see above.

This article uses Individual ship infobox.

Please note that this order is not definite: sometimes, editors might find it appropriate to move sections around to ensure effective presentation. In cases where there are insufficient information, it might be just appropriate to use "Overview" instead of a tree of sections.

It is important to note that a "Specifications" section along with its subsections should be included only and only if the individual ship has received significant modifications that makes it unique from its base ship class.

Others

For hybrid articles such as the UNSC Infinity, editors are advised to treat such article as a "ship class" first and then consider adding "individual ship" layout styles where appropriate.
