The President of the Unified Earth Government is the civilian elected position of head of state and head of government of the Unified Earth Government.[1] The president is responsible for selecting members of the cabinet.[2] The president issues the commission to officers of the United Nations Space Command armed forces, the formal legal document that grants officers their authority.[3]
In the aftermath of the Human-Covenant War, Fleet Admiral Terrence Hood organized the official transition of power back to the president and the UEG from the United Nations Space Command, which had acted as humanity's emergency government during the war. In 2553, numerous politicians and academics contended for the office of president.[4] Ultimately, Doctor Ruth Charet was elected to the post on January 8, 2553[5] and remains in office by March 2558.[6][7]
