I think the question of the site getting a new logo came up back when we were discussing the new site background, but there was never a consensus about it (that I know of, anyway). Now that Halo 4 is approaching and we have good images of the newest iteration of the Chief, I think it might be time to update our site logo.

I'm not sure about others, but I always saw the current HCE/Anniversary logo as a temporary one that we used due to the ten-year celebration of the first game, but it's not exactly something we'd want to keep forever. By now, the focus has already shifted on Halo 4 and the Reclaimer Trilogy, so updating our logo accordingly seems like a good idea. It's not just for the sake of novelty, but I believe the logo should be something more iconic and persistent than an image showing the difference between a game and its graphical remake. Moreover, it might serve well to reflect what the Halo franchise itself is going through; from Bungie's Halo 3 to the transitory stage and finally, 343's Halo 4 and the upcoming trilogy. It's like poetry, so that they rhyme...

Luckily, I noticed Soul reaper has already uploaded a few images which seem like good candidates for a new logo. Out of his versions, I prefer this one this one, as it seems to best mirror our earlier Halo 3 logo. There's also one which is darker but might do the job, and a couple of others; this, and this one which are more radical departures from the original formula.

I'd just like to see what people think about this. Should we keep the current logo or move on to a new one? If so, which one, or none of the ones we currently have? --Jugus (Talk | Contribs) 01:13, 23 April 2012 (EDT)

I'm just going to put up a gallery section according to your list. I like the third one the best, but I think we could request Soul Reaper to make a new logo with this image, which is somewhat brighter than the others. —S331 Bubbleshieldhud.svg(COMMission LogProfile) 01:57, 23 April 2012 (EDT)

I really like the idea of using all three, and randomising which one is displayed with each refresh of the page. Why do we have to choose? -- Specops306 Autocrat Qur'a 'Morhek 06:17, 23 April 2012 (EDT)

Instead of having the Master Chief with Halopedia in the foreground, maybe we should have a trademark representing the wiki? For example, Wikia's mark of trade is [w], Wikipedia's is a globe with glyphs from different languages, Firefox is a fox on fire circling a globe, Chrome is a red, green, yellow circle, etc. Halopedia's trademark should be distinctive to the extent that when people see it, they will immediately think of the wiki. As it is right now, it's just a icon of the franchise with a title in the foreground... which is a common practise for most Halo fan sites.— subtank 06:40, 23 April 2012 (EDT)

I've tried them all and I actually prefer this one over the ones mentioned (ignore the file name). I'm also going to try creating my own version. --User:Porplemontage/sig 09:15, 23 April 2012 (EDT)

If I had to pick, I'd go with image #1. I also like the idea of having our our own trademark.--Gravemind.svg Col. Spartacus Talk Page Contributions 10:16, 23 April 2012 (EDT)

I've never really cared for the fan-made Halo font, especially the 2010-present font, which doesn't match at all. So I would like to see some sort of "trademark" with or without the addition of our prized Spartan. Otherwise, the first image is the only one that would be nice daily and would probably be the best fit. As for a trademark, perhaps something relating to Cortana or Forerunner AI just to be stereotypical? :P Grizzlei

What if the trademark was the symbol of perhaps the Librarian or the Didact? The Superintendent avatar could also make a good trademark.--Gravemind.svg Col. Spartacus Talk Page Contributions 14:45, 23 April 2012 (EDT)

"Master Chief is iconic."

Well... —S331 Bubbleshieldhud.svg(COMMission LogProfile) 20:19, 23 April 2012 (EDT)
They would have stuck around with normal Mark VI if that were properly true. :P Grizzlei
Ironic iconic. Still, John is the most well-known character. I think the Superintendent is used as halofanon.wikia's logo. —S331 Bubbleshieldhud.svg(COMMission LogProfile) 23:20, 23 April 2012 (EDT)
Yeah well HF is a niche site and its not like we're rolling in popularity over there. Superintendent would be a nice choice. Grizzlei

Before we do anything, are we absolutely sure this is what the final iteration will look like in the game? It would be prudent to wait until we have some good images of the final one, if this isn't it. pestilence Phil, pestilence! 23:03, 23 April 2012 (EDT)

This image, in my opinion, would make a good trademark. It's the main symbol of the Forerunners.--Gravemind.svg Col. Spartacus Talk Page Contributions 23:34, 23 April 2012 (EDT)

That isn't appealing or eye catching at all. To most, all it would be is an arrangement of scifi-y lines in a circle. The Superintendent graphics, Libarian, 343 GS, Cortana, Virgil, or even the ONI triangle logo would be the best choices, me thinks. Grizzlei

Per above. Not the Shield World logo. I'd take the first or third Chief logo, but if we want something more general, why not a Halo? We are Halopedia... Tuckerscreator(stalk) 02:54, 24 April 2012 (EDT)

I think having a simple symbol or glyph there might seem too bland, even though it's true having a real "logo" might be more effective than just an image of the franchise's icon. Creating an effective logo that everyone is happy with, though, is another story. That, and I've really grown used to the Chief being there. He's what most people tend to associate the franchise with after all. I suppose a Halo might work too as Tuckerscreator suggested. Though I'm pretty sure I've seen some Halo site use a Halo ring encircling the site's name as their logo...? The Superintendent icon isn't a bad choice either. Even better if we could have its expressions randomized and/or animated. --Jugus (Talk | Contribs) 03:54, 24 April 2012 (EDT)

Generic icon

Any graphic design student/professional out there? Care to help us out? :P — subtank 10:37, 24 April 2012 (EDT)

I decided to try and make a simple logo idea. One with the word Halopedia in black, and one with it in white: White Word Black Word

Thoughts? Not expecting it to be the new logo, just wanted to show it off, haha. ~Jman98~ 02:19, 25 April 2012 (EDT)

An idea for a logo.

Here's a sketch I did for a potential logo (if this conversation hasn't died...). Obviously, it would need to be colored, but whenever I color pictures, I kill them. - DefeatingLine 09:49, 6 May 2012 (EDT)

I did some lurking on various fan sites and I think we're fine with the current logo style (that is, Master Chief with Halopedia text layered over him). So I think we don't need a new logo design, but I do think we need to update it with Master Chief from Halo 4. Oh, that's a nice sketch. Colour it! :D — subtank 10:53, 18 May 2012 (EDT)
Thanks! DefeatingLine 16:38, 18 May 2012 (EDT)

Erm, testing for me doesn't change the logo. Is there something wrong with my CSS?--Main-Superintendent.png KEEP IT CLEAN Comm Line Transmissions 13:56, 18 May 2012 (EDT)

Try clearing your browser's cache. That is required to show changes sometimes. - File:Major.png Nìcmávr (Tálk) 16:47, 18 May 2012 (EDT)

I'm assuming that we'll also be putting up a Halo 4 theme to celebrate the release of Halo 4, am I right? ;) - File:Major.png Nìcmávr (Tálk) 16:47, 18 May 2012 (EDT)

That would be a good idea. By the way, someone should put this in the SiteNotice....--Main-Superintendent.png KEEP IT CLEAN Comm Line Transmissions 16:59, 18 May 2012 (EDT)

I had no idea this was going on. I would like to thank you Jugus of selecting the ones I made. I feel I should point out, I have made two more recently. One that is of a similar pose to the traditional logo, it looks good when used but is artwork rather than an in game image and features the railgun. The other is a more recent in game image of the Chief and is the one I'm currently using. The lighting direction works well with the background. I'll post them so you can see for yourselves.--Soul reaper 23:03, 7 June 2012 (EDT)

I should note that, while these are bigger, they are cut off by the Nav menu and as such, appear to be around the same size as the other logos.
