In Halo: Reach, in addition to customizing armor, the player can customize the color of their visor. As with all armor permutation options, visor color is purely cosmetic and has no effect on gameplay.

Trivia
- The description for the silver visor is a reference to Orbital Drop Shock Troopers, who are frequently associated with the phrase "feet first into hell". In Halo 2, ODSTs wore helmets with dark blue visors. However, in Halo 3: ODST and Halo: Reach, most ODSTs wore helmets with blue-grey visors, while Veronica Dare wore a Recon helmet with a gold visor. There is evidence to suggest ODST visors do change color depending on the amount of light in their current environment, as they can be seen as being a very light silver in shadows or at night time, a light-dark blue in locations with the sun shining and completely black in areas with very bright light, such as the desert. Silver was most likely chosen to represent the ODSTs because their visor only turns that color in the dark, which is the Helljumpers' preferred method of working.
- The GUNGNIR helmet has no visor to speak of; instead, the customization changes the color of the helmet's camera lens.
- Changing the visor color of the Haunted helmet will instead change the color of the skull inside it.
- Emile-A239 and Jun-A266 both have a reddish-orange visor color and Jorge-052 has one in dark red. Both of these colors are strangely unavailable to the player.
- The description of the black visor in Halo: Reach states, "You can have it in any color you want... as long as it's black." This is a reference to a quote attributed to Henry Ford, speaking about the Ford Model T in 1909, although there is speculation as to whether he ever said it at all.
