Asceticism is a form and variation of Forerunner worship among the Covenant way of creed, involving humbling oneself before Forerunner technologies. It is followed by both the Sangheili and many San 'Shyuum in diversities of Covenant Ages and by notable individuals, including one of the former-Minister of Fortitude's clerics.[1] Also, ascetic priests led by the Philologist Hod Rumnt, who would later be known as the Prophet of Mercy, resided in the Forerunner Dreadnought, exploring its interior pathways with the help of trained Lekgolo worms.[2] The Philologist also tended to the Oracle in the Dreadnought, and Covenant politicians would need to get the Oracle's blessing for formality's sake when deciding important matters. The priests weren't beyond political bribing or blackmail, however - for example, the Minister of Fortitude was prepared to make a donation of some sort for the Philologist when asking for a blessing for what they though to be a newly-discovered reliquary.[3]
