Narcozine gas is a chemical agent used as a weapon by the United Nations Space Command. When inhaled, the gas quickly causes paralysis, and extended exposure causes pulmonary edema, (swelling of fluid in the lungs), which can quickly become fatal due to suffocation and drowning.[1]
The UNSC does not use the agent in combat. It is instead installed as a security measure in Office of Naval Intelligence bases, like CASTLE Base on Reach, in order to neutralize potential threats to security. AI constructs inside these bases are given broad discretionary powers, with the power to use this gas on anyone who violates protocol and accesses classified information. The AI Araquiel threatened to use this gas against Dr. Cathrine Halsey at CASTLE base on Reach. In return, Halsey activated the AI's fail-safe function, effectively erasing Araquiel.[1]
