The structures.
The Apex[1] consist of a port holding many Forerunner ships, possibly inside a Shield World. [2].
The purpose of these towers is currently unknown, it is known to include a Beam Emitter like many other Forerunner facilities. Though unlike the standard Beam Emitters, this energy is channeled into one continuous stream, instead of a single bolt of energy.
