Blackout setting is a UNSC Antarctic weather station/
will be formally revealed on March 25, 2008[1]. In a recent Bungie Weekly Update, it was announced that it will be replacing Purple Reign. This does not however, mean that the map Purple Reign has been scrapped, only that it will appear in a later set. Moonlight Sonata will be available for download on Xbox Live Marketplace in the Legendary Map Pack available April 15, 2008.
As hinted by the name, Bungie has revealed that this map takes places under a nighttime sky. In the Bungie Weekly Update 2/15/08 it states "...gentle glow warms this otherwise chilly, isolated structure. Steam is ejected into the skybox which resembles the night sky from the opening of Sierra 117, but what’s under that sky is far different than a lush jungle". The name could also be a reference to the sonata by Beethoven. Xbox.com has also hinted to the scenery of the map "stay tuned for full details on another returning classic … fans of smaller Slayer maps, it’s time to get excited." There were rumors created by a fake Dutch magazine cover image[1], it shows a structure much like the Gravity Lift Room from Lockout, with a rumor of the map being named Glossary. This false cover was fairly quickly debunked by users at carnage.bungie.org[2]. This map is now confirmed to be Blackout.
