Lament for Pvt. Jenkins is a piece included in the Halo: Original Soundtrack.
This piece is played during the cutscene where Master Chief watches the video feed from Jenkins' helmet. The theme is also played on the level The Silent Carographer , when Dropship Bravo 22 gives a Mayday call.
Overview
The piece is a tense, moody ambient song by string orchestra. The piece opens with a dark, powerful drumbeat, followed by an apprehensive minor chord. Every seven seconds, the drum sounds again, punctuating a change in the chord. The song becomes increasingly disjointed towards the end, featuring the scrambled high notes typical of the Flood, and slowly fades out, leaving a dark air to the scene.
It is also featured on the ad for Halo 3, Arms Race, right after a Marine is shot by a Brute Spiker.
Nomenclature
The name is clearly derived from the Chief witnessing the horrible fates of Jenkins, Bisenti, Mendoza and the rest of Johnson's squad.
