Jones' subsequent fate is unknown.
During the First Battle of Earth, his squad was dispatched from the UNSC In Amber Clad from Cairo Station to relieve the ground forces. Shortly after deployment, their Pelican was shot down over Old Mombasa by a Scarab walker. He survived the crash, but his squad was soon attacked by a Covenant patrol. When the squad was pinned down by a Jackal sniper, Jones, as the squad's own sniper, neutralized the Jackal with his "welcome-to-Earth gift basket", causing the majority of the other Covenant to flee the area. A camouflaged Elite then snuck up on the squad and took Jones hostage with an Energy Sword. One of his squad-mates, wielding an overcharged plasma pistol taken from a Grunt, killed the alien, along with Stacker using his Battle Rifle, and freed him. His subsequent fate is unknown, although it is possible that he was killed by the destruction of Mombasa at the hands of the Prophet of Regret, or that he escaped with the rest of his squad.

"Damn it!"
— "Snaky" Jones, after Noga 'Putumee avoided his sniper shot.

Lance Corporal "Snaky" Jones' was a UNSC Marine and ODST. As a sharpshooter with the Helljumpers, he bore a Sniper Rifle in combat. He was fond of candy bars.[1]

Biography

Jones was one of the Marines stationed aboard the Pillar of Autumn and was evacuated with the other personnel on board. Under the command of First Lieutenant Melissa McKay, Jones joined a convoy that was ferrying supplies to Alpha Base. However, Covenant ground forces under the command of Noga 'Putumee soon attacked the convoy using Wraiths, Banshees and Ghosts. Jones was in the fourth Warthog with Sergeant Corly when the vehicle was hit by a Plasma Mortar round from a Wraith. Corly was killed but Jones was thrown free.[2] Once recovered, he discovered that his helmet (with his team mic) was missing, therefore he followed his sniper training and climbed to some cover and an elevated firing position in the form of rocks.

Targets soon presented themselves in the forms of two Elites, one being Minor Domo Elite Ado 'Mortumee and the other the Zealot Noga 'Putumee. For unknown reasons (possibly because he didn't know the Covenant rankings or knew that Field Masters have stronger shields than that of blue armored Sangheili), Jones chose to kill the lesser ranked Elite first.[3] His first shot decapitated Ado 'Mortumee, but his second, aimed at Noga 'Putumee, missed due to the Field Master's seeking cover. The Covenant commander responded by calling down Banshees to locate and kill the human.[4] But the marine manages to hide and apparently had enough supplies (candy bars) to make it back to Alpha base (but it is unknown if he made it or not). Jones' subsequent fate is unknown.

Trivia

  • He may have somehow survived the destruction of Installation 04, as there is an ODST sniper named Jones who holds the rank of Lance Corporal as well in the Another Day At The Beach video for Halo 2.
  • Another fact supporting the above theory is that Sgt. Stacker is in Jones' squad in the video, and he somehow survived the first Halo ring, although nobody quite knows how.
  • Jones may have escaped the ring with Sgt. Stacker and or Chips Dubbo.
