You should know this.  Don't give me any crap about how you aren't that old or you haven't been taught that in school yet.  You know your way around a computer well enough to find this site and edit it, so you are qualified enough to figure out how to write.

One last thing.  "It's" means one thing only:  a contraction of "It is".  "Its" is the one possessive you do not put an apostrophe on (that I know of).  This is because it can be both a contraction and a possessive.  In such cases, the contraction wins the use of the apostrophe, and since "Its" ALWAYS implies possession, it is (it's) just assumed that that spelling refers to the possession of a previously mentioned possessive.

Again, I am without hope that this will make a damn bit of difference, but I am tired of people stroking themselves about how badass they are in Halo on legendary when they fail life's achievements at the easy difficulty level.  At least master life on Normal first.

The Covenant Loyalists is a faction of the former Covenant Empire[1]

Hierarchy

The Loyalists are comprised of the Prophets (San 'Shyuum), Brutes (Jiralhanae), Jackals (Kig-Yar), Drones (Yanme'e), and some Hunters (Lekgolo), and Grunts (Unggoy) that support them within the Covenant's hierarchical society. However, it is likely that since the Unggoy supported the Loyalists chiefly because they thought that the Separatists would lose and preferred not to die, they would abandon the Loyalists upon their loss to the Separatist/UNSC forces.

Background

This faction is made up of those who (as of the end of Halo 2) still remain in the Covenant and are set on activating the Halos and starting the Great Journey. Since the beginning of the Covenant Civil War, they have been fighting the Covenant Separatists, led by the Elites and their Grunt and Hunter supporters. Front's of this war include High Charity, Delta Halo, and area's of space where Covenant ship's operate.

This is not necessarily the first internal dispute in the Covenant's society; when the current Arbiter was assigned to his office, he was reminded by the High Prophet of Mercy that an Arbiter was necessary during the Grunt Rebellion, a conflict between the Covenant and it's lowest caste, the Grunts.

Grammar

I know I'm not going to cause any great miracles of literacy here, but do not use apostrophes for plurals like that.

You use an apostrophe for two reasons: To mark a contraction or omission, or to point out that a word ending in s owns something else (the word ending in s is called a possessive).

"Grunts ain't no slouches either" has an apostrophe for the "contraction" in ain't, but "Grunts" has none because it is simply referring to more than one grunt.

The Arbiter's response, "The Grunts' newfound courage is but fear", has an apostrophe because the courage belongs to the Grunts (Grunt's is a possessive). Also, note the placement of the apostrophe. If the word is both a possessive and a plural, the apostrophe follows the s. If the possessive is not plural "The Arbiter's response", then the apostrophe is before the s.

This is because a sequence of the letters I-T-S can be a contraction or a possessive.

Just because I want someone to read this, I'm committing temporary vandalism by posting this on the actual article as well.

Origins of the Faction

The High Prophet of Regret led a botched mission to Earth and was forced into The First Battle of Earth upon discovering what turned out to be the UNSC homeworld. Regret escapes to Delta Halo but he is soon assassinated by the Master Chief, which is considered a significant failure in the Elites mission to protect the leading caste of the Covenant. The Master Chief was assigned on a mission to capture and later kill Regret. The remaining Prophets, led by the High Prophet of Truth, use this opportunity to replace the Elites with Brutes as their protectors. However, this move effectively shames and angers the Elites, who have been in such a position since the founding of the Covenant, and they threaten to resign from the High Council.

Truth gave command of the Covenant Fleets to the Brutes, a position previously held by the Elites. Once there were enough Brutes in place, Truth secretly ordered the Brutes to nearly commit "xenocide" of the Elites. With this act disguised as a Brute insurrection, the Brutes replaced the Elites within the society of the Covenant. The Elites, of course, revolted, enlisting the help of most of the Hunters as well as the Grunts, birthing the Covenant Civil War in High Charity.

Deep into the Civil War, the Elite Councilors are assassinated by the Brutes at the behest of the Prophets, mainly Truth. When the Elites learn the truth about the Halos, it changes the war significantly and adds the Humans to the struggle. Instead of a Great Journey, the Gravemind's revelation regarding the super weapon contradicts the Covenant's belief system and is motivating at least the Arbiter in his eventual opposition to the Covenant as they try to activate Delta Halo later in the game.

Future?

With the death of the High Prophet of Truth and the Ark destroyed it is not known what the future holds for the Loyalists if any (it can be assumed that all of the Loyalists died at the end of Halo 3) although it’s unlikely seeing how few ships were present at the Ark and to think that the Covenant Loyalists are composed of multiple species made up of billions of individuals all from different home planets, each with a large population. Most likely the faction was in disarray after the Prophet of Truth's death, and was defeated and dissolved by the Elites.
