Before becoming a full-time writer, Stephen worked as a Program Manager in the Microsoft Office Server group. He also received three patent awards for his work on web-based content management. While working for microsoft he had a chance to work as a Beta tester for Halo 2.
He left Microsoft in 2004 to marry his Canadian wife. After leaving Microsoft he was playing Halo, but when looking around for some Halo strategy info to improve his game, he was shocked that there wasn't any great books or guides. Putting his experince at Microsoft to work he developed a strategy game book, The Unauthorized Halo 2 Battle Guide: Advanced Combat Techniques, that borrows from a number of books including combat leader's field guide, warfighting and Sun-Tzu's: The Art of War.

In his free time, Stephen enjoys playing water polo, squash and snowboarding. He also trains with a local Jujitsu and grappling club.
