Mining Vehicle?
==\

Its Questionable however if the mining vehicles in First Strike are infact scarabs.

For one thing, the "insect like" machines were easily destroyed in the book, First Strike.  This doesn't match with the game.  At the end of the New Mombasa level, the Scarab eventually stops and is shot at by Pelicans with rocket pods repeatedly. You'd think those would have destroyed it.

Secondly, the Scarab as we know it from the game has been around much longer then we have heard of its supposed use for mining. I think the mining vehicles were in fact seperate vehicles, not Scarabs. They'd probably call them Scarabs in First Strike if thats what they were.

I think that the Scarab was definitely meant to be a weapon, as indicated in the Halo Graphic Novel. It could have very well have been roaming around New Mombasa trying to clean out as much resistance as possible, (Just like Tripods were annihilating people in War of the Worlds).

The link between the scarab and a mining vehicle is fuzzy, and i don't think it can be postively determined that was it's purpose just yet.

:: one could assume that the existing mining platforms were retrofitted with extra armor, just like humvees are today and shermans were in WWII -- ryanman

I'm sure the ones in New Mombasa were saposed to mine for the Ark before they found out humans were there.--prophit of war 22:06, 21 November 2006 (UTC)

I've noticed one small detail to do with the Scarab's secondary weapons. The are mentioned here to have needler homing technology, where as in-game the projectiles do not home at all, and are exactly the same as the covenant large plasma turret projectiles; where this link with the needler comes from I am not sure of. Also, onb the main covenant page, the secondary weapon is said to fire crystals; I really don't think it does. Diaboy 15:05, 2 March 2007 (UTC)

:i have a problem with the part where it says that scarabs are practical in tight places like cities. it says in the multiplayer map pack booklet: "Though they dominate on open terrain many Scarabs have fallen victim to the narrow streets of Earth's cities." wouldnt this mean that they are not practical in tight places, especially earth's cities? Until we have more proof the article should not state that the scarab is a mining vehicle, the evidence we have is very flimsy at best.--Raptor117 00:57, 15 March 2007 (UTC)

Common sence tells us that the Scarab is nothing more than a combat walker used for heave assault. Why would anyone think it would be a mining veicle... That is beyond my scope of understaning but my ability to understand the conscept of machines and war tells me that the mining veicle might be smaller than a scarab and is completly useless in combat.
