The gunner stands on the back of the warthog and uses its main weapon.

The Warthog is considerably lighter than the [[Scorpion Tank]], weighing approximately six tons. It can have a maximum of three occupants: a driver, passenger and gunner. The driver controls the direction the vehicle is moving in, though has no weapon control. The passenger sits beside the driver and can fire shotgun style any weapon they are carrying. Commonly a rocket launcher or sniper rifle is used. The gunner fires the main weapon, and is responsible for defense and offense.

The Warthog has amazing off-road capabilties, being able to transeverse most terrain obstacles with ease. It is considerably more vulnerable than most vehicles, however, as it can be overwhelmed by sheer rifle and pistol power, and the occupants are very vulnerable to snipers.
The M12 Light Anti Aircraft Vehicle is only seen on [[Halo PC]]. It shoots rockets instead of the machine gun shots. It can shoot three before reloading, but like all projectile weapons, can be reloaded before the magazine capacity is depleted. A popular sport in the original Halo game is to place many grenades underneath the Warthog, then detonate them all at once. The purpose is to try to see how long the Warthog can remain airborne. This is known as the 'Warthog Jump'. The current record is approximately 18 seconds, with over 10,000 degrees of rotation.
In [[Halo 2]], there is no Rocket-shooting Warthog, but there is another variant of the Warthog. Summary

The Warthog is the "Jeep" of the Halo games; it is equipped with a seemingly full-time 4x4 transmission, the ability to turn its front and rear wheels to allow for tighter turning, and can carry 3 people; 1 driver, 1 gunner, and 1 passenger. The driver has no forms of attack except ramming enemies with the Warthog itself, which instantly kills an enemy on foot in Halo: Combat Evolved. In Halo 2, factors such as speed and direction do not allow every ram to be a guaranteed kill. The passenger is the worst spot to be in, it is very difficult to aim (made even harder in halo 2 with the removal of the first person view in the seat) while the warthog is moving, and if you try to reload, you will automatically jump out if you hold the X button too long. The gunner stands on the back of the warthog and uses its main weapon.

Variants

The M12 Light Reconnisance Vehicle is the most common type of warthog. It uses an M41 Light Anti-Aircraft Gun.

The M12 Light Anti Aircraft Vehicle is only seen on Halo PC. It shoots rockets instead of the machine gun shots. It can shoot three before reloading, but like all projectile weapons, can be reloaded before the magazine capacity is depleted. The rocket Warthog is black in colour with yellow stripes lined through the base.

In Halo 2, there is no Rocket-shooting Warthog, but there is another variant of the Warthog. Its turret is a Gauss Cannon that acts like a miniature Magnetic Accelerator Cannon and fires fast-moving projectiles, takes about a half of a second to reload and has unlimited ammunition like all vehicle-mounted weapons systems.

(the warthog in Halo 2 is much more maneuverable than in Halo with less sliding and an E-brake (left trigger) for easier stopping and tighter turns. It also has a horn (right trigger) which can be used for various reasons)
