Marine action figures from Joyride, Halo: CE era.
Spartan action figures from McFarlane, Halo 3 era.

Joyride Studios created a line of Action Figures for Halo: Combat Evolved and Halo 2 starting in 2003. In March 2008, the Todd McFarlane company began producing the Halo 3 Action Figure sets.

The success of the figures is due largely to the close interconnection abilities of the figures with one another. Most maintain a 6" scale, and feature interchangeable weapons. A more popular feature, introduced by McFarlane Toys, allows the figures to interchange armor with each other, allowing the owner to create customized armor.

Figure Locations

  • Australia - Target,Toys R Us, Game. Previously sold in EB games, but are not currently.
  • USA - Most department or toy stores (Wal-Mart, Toys R Us), Comic stores (Alien Worlds), Bookstores (Borders), and game stores (GameStop). Grifball Spartan will be sold exclusively at the San Diego Comic-Con 2009.[1]

Figures can also be purchased online around the world.

Halo: Combat Evolved Series

Joyride Studios produced the Halo: Combat Evolved action figures. It included a total of five series (without counting mini-sets and exclusives). Joyride included a serial number on each figure designating when it was created. This date code has four numbers followed by 'SS' stamped or embossed in the cardboard packaging. The first three digits represent the date the product was made, and the fourth digit is the year. For example: 2653SS means the product was manufactured on the 265th day of 2003 (9/23/2003).

Halo 2 Series

Halo 2 action figures were produced by Joyride Studios as well, and were divided into 10 Series (without counting the mini-set or the exclusives). They are considerably different compared to the Halo 3 McFarlane figures. Like the toys from the first game, a four digit date code followed by 'SS' was stamped or embossed on the cardboard. The first three digits are the date the product was made, and the fourth digit is the year.

Halo 3

The Halo 3 Action Figures are produced exclusively by McFarlane Toys. These figures include new features such as Halo Points (which allow owners to trade the points for other Halo items) and removable armor.

They also have considerable differences from the toys produced by Joyride studios; they are considerably smaller, molded in a "6-inch" scale, and have more detailed sculpts, which is McFarlane's hallmark. They were released in fewer waves than the Joyride products, but each series included more figures.
