Chapman was sharing command of Charlie Company with 1st Lt Buckman during the First Battle of Reach.

He is mentioned when Admiral Danforth Whitcomb tells SCPO Frederic-104 to put "Lieutenant Jake Chapman" on the line with him [2].

First Lieutenant Chapman was killed, along with all but four members of Charlie Company and Covenant troops [3], due to a carpet bombing by numerous C709 Longsword-class Interceptors that had been poorly targeted and caused a friendly-fire accident.
