René-005[1] was conscripted into the SPARTAN-II Program in 2517. When the time came for the Spartan augmentations in 2525, René became crippled and could not fight anymore. René was last known to be floating in a neural buoyancy gel tank next to Kirk-018, with his or her skeletal system twisted beyond recognition "so that they hardly looked human anymore". The last time René was seen was on the UNSC Carrier Atlas. René's current whereabouts are unknown to date, even the gender.[2]
Trivia

- René is known to be a French name.
- She has the lowest Service Number known for a SPARTAN-II, '005'
- There appears to be a discrepancy with Rene's service tag. The Halo Encyclopedia lists her as 005, however the ODST License Plate Eggs seem to give this number to James, and 081 to Rene.
