The Infester is a Flood pure form that specializes in combating and converting enemy ground vehicles and their crews.[1][2]

Overview[edit]

Infesters are hunched-over Flood forms boasting three legs, with two at the front on the "shoulders" and one located at the back. The two front legs end in massive spikes, which can be used to claw through heavy armour plating. They are used for hunting down crewed vehicles, climbing aboard them and ripping them apart with their claws and tentacles.[1][2] Once done, the infester infects the crew inside, converting the crew into spore-packed pustules and mucus-like growths which themselves hold the damaged vehicle together. This process does weaken the vehicle's structural integrity, but means that the infected vehicle can serve the Flood for growing pod infectors inside. Once destroyed, these pod infectors can emerge forth to continue the Flood's life cycle.[3] This threat also serves to encourage enemy forces to rely less on vehicles and traverse on foot - making them more vulnerable to other forms of Flood infection.[2]

Once the infester has completed its task, it collapses in a heap and dies, spewing spores around the area.[1][2]

The infester can also use its barbed tendrils to attack infantry and structures, though with less effectiveness than attacks against vehicles.[1]

Anti-vehicle war-forms.

The Infester is a pure form that specializes in cracking open vehicles and converting their crew into Flood-controlled puppets. A purpose-built biological weapon, Infesters expend all of their energy on the attack, collapsing in a dying heap and spreading spores upon the completion of their singular task.

The Infester is adapted to the task of countering and subverting armored vehicles used by the UNSC and Banished. Though they can attack infantry and structures with barbed tentacles, their goal is to hunt manned vehicles. When they detect mechanized prey, the Infester grabs onto it with their tentacles and bores into the hull to reach the crew. This process can be interrupted, similar to the Hijack ability. if the infestation is successful, however, the vehicle is infected and the Infester dies.

Production notes[edit]

In the Halo Encyclopedia (2022 edition), the artwork used to the Infester and the Spawner forms are swapped around - one of several errors in the book. The correct artwork from the Encyclopedia is used at the top of this page.[2]
