Halo's history in Minecraft[edit]

To coincide with the addition of the then newly added Skin Selector in Minecraft on Xbox 360,[4] 4J Studios released on July 16, 2012 Skin Pack 1 which featured three Halo themed skins, this was the start of Halo's appearances in Minecraft.[3] Throughout the following years a handful of Skin Packs featuring Halo-themed skins.[5] On May 28, 2014, a mash-up pack was released for Minecraft based around Halo,[6] this mash-up pack often gets updated with major releases, and has items released outside it to coincide with the updates.[7]

— Marketplace Description[8]

Skin Pack 1, also named Classic Skin Pack 1 on PlayStation consoles, and Skin Pack 1 - Classic on Bedrock Edition, was the first Skin Pack released for Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition releasing on July 16, 2012.[3] This Skin Pack coincided with the Title Update 3 for the Xbox 360 edition, making use of the then newly added Character Skin Selector.[4] The Skin Pack contains various skins, such as some unique skins, a few based on Minecraft itself, and the majority based on various games, such as characters from Fable, Gears of War, Banjo-Kazooie, and most notably three Halo themed skins.[9]

When Skin Pack 1 was originally released on PlayStation (PlayStation 3, and shortly after eventually PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita) on March 27, 2014, on the PlayStation specific version of the Skin Pack all licensed Skins tied to Xbox where replaced with skins themed around PlayStation franchises.[10] The Skin Pack with the skins untouched was later made available for Nintendo Wii U and Nintendo Switch on January 30, 2018.[11] Eventually PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, and Vita finally got the original pack on March 27, 2018.[12]

When the Master Chief Mash-up pack was getting updated in December 2021, the Marketplace icon was updated to be Halo themed. The icons were made by Aleesa Tana, where they only had a three day turn around and no access to the Mash-up pack so they used the knowledge their partner had.[21]
