CMA Argo was a UNSC-built scout ship operated by the Colonial Military Authority.[3] Though small, it was equipped with a Shaw-Fujikawa Translight Engine. Argo was one of the first human vessels to come into contact with the Covenant.[1]

History[edit]

On February 3, 2525, contact was lost with the Unified Earth Government Outer Colony of Harvest, in the Epsilon Indi system. In response, CMA Argo was dispatched to the planet to investigate the sudden loss of communications. Upon arriving in the system on April 20, 2525, the ship sent a brief transmission back, informing its location after dropping out of slipstream space. However, contact was lost with Argo directly after and no further reports were made by the vessel.[1] Upon arriving at Harvest, Argo came across the Covenant cruiser Rapid Conversion in orbit, still in the process of glassing the planet. JOTUNs under the control of Mack, Harvest's agricultural artificial intelligence, witnessed Argo enter Harvest's orbit and tried to warn the ship off, but, with communications options limited, Mack was unable to warn them in time. Argo was destroyed by Rapid Conversion when it strayed too close to the cruiser.[4][5] With communications lost with Argo, the CMA and UNSC Fleet Command sent Battle Group 4, lead by Captain Maribeau Veredi aboard Heracles, to Harvest to discover the fate of the planet and Argo.[1]

Trivia[edit]

  • The ship was presumably named after the Argo, Jason's ship in Greek mythology. It was said to have been planned or constructed with the help of the goddess Athena, and on which Jason and the Argonauts sailed to Colchis to retrieve the Golden Fleece. The vessel was named after her shipwright, Argus.
  • Argo resembles the Andorian vessel Kumari from Star Trek: Enterprise.
