The UNSC Plateau was a United Nations Space Command frigate that was tasked with guarding the city of Sydney on Earth by remaining stationed in the lower atmosphere near it.[1] On October 28, 2558, a Guardian arrived over the city. The Plateau engaged the massive construct by firing a pair of shots from its two magnetic accelerator cannons. The shots were ineffective, and the Guardian subsequently unleashed an electromagnetic pulse on the city, which caused the Plateau to begin to list to one side and then drop from the sky. Admiral Serin Osman witnessed this right before jumping to slipstream space, and she surmised that if the ship's engine core detonated on impact with the ground below, then Sydney would be nothing but a crater and millions would be dead.[1]
Ultimately, the Plateau was destroyed upon impact with the surface, and its engine core detonated, completely destroying Sydney.[2]
