Were you looking for the Covenant FLEETCOM or the UNSC FLEETCOM communications channels?

UNSC Fleet Command (FLEETCOM) is the primary operations group of the United Nations Space Command Navy. It is one of three Task Commands within UNSC Naval Command (NAVCOM), alongside Naval Logistical Operations Command (NAVLOGCOM) and Naval Special Warfare Command (NAVSPECWARCOM).[1] FLEETCOM is responsible for the movement and tasking of warships of the UNSC Navy, and is considered the largest and most powerful component of NAVCOM.[2]

FLEETCOM has two known headquarters, one on the planet Reach in New Alexandria, and another in Sydney, Australia, on Earth.

Mission[edit]

FLEETCOM is the primary element of the UNSC Navy, and is responsible for the warfighting component of the UNSC fleet. This includes the movement and tasking of warships, ranging from small corvettes up to the largest carriers. As such, they are the most powerful organisation within the navy.[2] FLEETCOM is responsible for tasking UNSC naval squadrons,[1] an administrative grouping of warships which can be assigned one of a number of specialised functions.[1][3] These vessels can then be assigned to fleets, battle groups and task forces as necessary, forming joint task forces alongside various Unified Ground Command (UNICOM) assets for mission deployments at the behest of a given Central Command.[4]

FLEETCOM's other duties include troop transport and space fighter operations.[5][6]

Organization[edit]

FLEETCOM is one of the three Task Commands of the UNSC Navy. As part of the navy's dual command structure, commanding officers report to FLEETCOM for operational issues, while they report to NAVCOM for administrative issues.[1]

The command is headed by the Secretary of Fleet Command.[7] FLEETCOM also operates a Criminal Investigation Division (CID), which presumably investigates crimes involving Navy or Marine personnel.[8] Fleet Command contains its own Special Operations Command, which in turn works with and guides Naval Special Warfare - one of the other task commands of the UNSC.[9]

FLEETCOM rarely interacts with Spartan Operations; however, Spartans deployed in the field are required to work with them when serving on spacecraft, directing orbital fire support missions, and coordinating starside interception of fleeing enemy forces.[2]

FLEETCOM sectors[edit]

Main article: Sector

A sector is a region of space as identified by the United Nations Space Command. Sectors usually contain several star systems, some of which contain UNSC colony worlds. Other sectors contain no planets at all.

The UNSC Navy designates sectors as "FLEETCOM Sector (number)" to denote the division of command the sector's inhabitants fall under. Other sectors are simply designated "Sector (letter)-(three numbers)".

There are three known FLEETCOM sectors:

History[edit]

FLEETCOM has participated in nearly every UNSC space battle to date in some way. either minor or major. FLEETCOM designates orders to UNSC fleets during interstellar warfare operations.

In 2517, FLEETCOM Headquarters on Reach ordered Lieutenant Jacob Keyes to pilot the Han for Doctor Catherine Halsey to evaluate the SPARTAN-II candidates.[11]

During the Fall of Reach, FLEETCOM HQ commanded over 150 vessels of the Epsilon Eridani Fleet as well as the twenty orbital defense platforms when the Covenant Fleet of Particular Justice invaded the colony. Nonetheless, Reach was glassed, with FLEETCOM HQ being one of the first headquarters to fall.

Production notes[edit]

Page 6 of the Halo: Fleet Battles has a small section about the two primary combatant commands of the UNSC (NAVCOM and UNICOM). However, the section describing NAVCOM erroneously refers to the organisation as FLEETCOM, and describes information that has little relevance to FLEETCOM's duties (such as the UNSC Marine Corps' token representation within it). The later Halo: Official Spartan Field Manual and Halo Encyclopedia (2022 edition) books properly delineated the differences and relationship of the two organisations.[2][1]
