Freebooters are Kig-Yar infantry units hired in service of the Banished.^[1]

Overview[edit]

Roles and responsibilities[edit]

Freebooters perform the same role in the Banished as Kig-Yar Minors did in the Covenant, serving as basic infantry, scouts, and guards. Typically, they are under the command of a Jiralhanae or Sangheili, who incorporate freebooters at key locations and within specific strike groups to take full advantage of their raptorial traits. Notably, freebooters may also provide security at Banished outposts or be deployed for scouting operations, wherein they rely on their keen sight and smell to hunt down and neutralize targets.^[1]

Organization[edit]

Freebooters are the most basic—as well as the lowest—rank for the Kig-Yar in the Banished, employed under a standard contract for military service with monetary compensation. Freebooters can advance to the status of raider once they have proven their ability in combat; though, many refrain from this progression, desiring instead to maintain the lowest possible risk-to-reward ratio.^[1]

History[edit]

Numerous Kig-Yar Freebooters fought for the Banished on Zeta Halo during the Battle for Zeta Halo.^[2]

Equipment[edit]

Freebooters are equipped with either purple or blue armour and the Kig-Yar's signature handheld shields.^[1] They are usually armed with the Rohakadu-pattern plasma pistols and the Posu'gelka-pattern needlers.^[2]

Trivia[edit]

Freebooter is another word for pirate.
Kig-Yar Freebooters are unaffected by the Thunderstorm skull, and will not turn into Kig-Yar Raiders when it is active.
