Nomination

I, CommanderTony, nominate Jugus for adminship at Halopedia.
Nominee, please accept or defer the above nomination below this line.

I, Jugus, accept the nomination.

Reason for nomination

Here's that time again, when we face a monumental task ahead of us. Within a year, more Halo material will be released than ever before, including the upcoming Halo Legends series and the prequel, Halo: Reach. As we've asked for a "different" types of admins in the past, whether their expertise is in community efforts, or their technical prowess, and today is nothing different. Right now, we have the community, and we definitely have the technical stuff down...so now we can shift to one of the most important things, writing skills.

Jugus, like the others being nominated today, has proved himself worthy of donning the party helmets of the Halopedia Administration. He is one of our best writers today, likely remembering the entirety of the Manual of Style as entertainment while he re-writes some of our largest and most popular articles. Plus, he's a rollback whore, with hundreds of reverts and vandal fighting under his wing, proving he knows how to protect our glorious establishment from kids who have too much time.

Rawr,
CommanderTony

  1. Oppose.svg Oppose - Nothing against you here, Jugus, but I haven't actually seen you that active in the community (as in, he hasn't talked to anyone in a while, or at least that I've seen). 2. Oppose.svg Oppose - As per General. If I actually mean this, I can't just say "As per General." Now, the reason I am opposing this RfA is because this user may have plenty of edits, but is plainly inexperienced. Adminship seems like it's been being given away like "free candy". I may support if I get to know Jugus better, because if I know him better, then I'll see if he's admin material or not. Administrators are a huge part of a wiki, and a huge part of the community. I won't support someone who I don't know; I don't know if they will go rogue, or if they will go inactive after their RfA, or if they'll be the greatest admin ever. With all due respect to Jugus, he has to prove to me that he can be an effective admin before he gets my vote. Comments

Whoa. This came totally unexpected. It's like I just registered here and now i'm nominated for admin. Myself, I think more skilled people with more experience deserve this more than me, but I accept the nomination. --Jugus 20:33, October 20, 2009 (UTC)

Heh, I felt the same when I was nominated. So if you accept, please formally accept this nomination and post your signature above the "reason for nomination". Also, don't forget to fill out the questionnaire. CommanderTony

There seems to be a rather big group of users who find Jugus ineligible for adminship because he... is not a part of the Halopedia community. Of course, his edits have been of great quality and value to us all, but this RfA is the first time some even hear Jugus' name. I believe that the RfA should be postponed, until the user becomes more known, makes more comments and votes, participates in community contests and basically makes more friends. Of course this is just one man's opinion, so of course it won't happen, but the major number of neutral and opposing votes kinda shout out the same thing: "not ready yet!". - JEA13 [iTalk] 10:43, October 22, 2009 (UTC)

Jugus is part of the community just like everyone else. Never assume someone is not part of the community just because he is quiet. What gives you (directed to those reading this) or anyone else the authority to say that an individual is not part of the community? Just because the individual doesn't talk/communicate doesn't mean he's not part of the community. From my view, the moment an individual makes an account in Halopedia, he/she is part of the community and if he/she contributes in a good manner, it shows that the individual is still/really part of the community. Sure, Jugus doesn't go around and say "Hey, wanna be my friend?" or "Hey, what'cha doing?" but he replies to every question thrown to him... in a good and mature manner. Go around any article's talk page and you can see that he replies to unattended questions and also questions pointed towards his edits. Also, to quote from our official rules, Halopedia is not a social network. Though Wikia has provided us these special features, we have to remember that this is an encyclopaedia and that we are here to improve and expand the Halo Universe. Please don't get the wrong idea; the features Wikia provide is great. If you want to socialise, you can but keep it low-profile and through other means of communication (message boards or the Irk!). So, in conclusion, I find those opposing his RfA because of the above reason to be unreasonable and silly.- 5əb'7aŋk(7alk) 14:52, October 22, 2009 (UTC)
I'm glad you did not direct the message only to me, as half of the voters are practically saying the same thing. Back to topic: What I wanted to say with "is not a part of the community" is that some users don't even know about Jugus. This is happening at several voters here. You can't be an admin if your RfA is the first time one hears your name. I know he speaks. He has spoken to me. Only because I asked him a question. What about those who haven't? He never goes on the IRC and he rarely comments. Also, speaking and socialising is completely different in the same way asking and answering questions is completely different and contrasting. Oh, and Wikia is doing it's best to make us disobey the policy you mentioned by providing us with extra, unneeded features, that's my opinion. - JEA13 [iTalk] 19:57, October 22, 2009 (UTC)

"You can't be an admin if your RfA is the first time one hears your name."
— JEA13
I disagree. Whenever a RfA is held, almost every user you encounter will say the following, "Don't really know you that well but I heard/based from what I've seen so far, you would be a great admin". Just browse the past RfAs (both successful and rejected) and you will see that comment in every support/opposition/neutral groups. Also, if you think an individual can't be an admin if no one knows the individual, then should we remove Kylie and Ryan from being Administrators/Bureaucrats? Not many knows who they are and how they are like because they have not been in Halopedia for more than 2 years. So your statement is invalid.- 5əb'7aŋk(7alk) 23:32, October 22, 2009 (UTC)
Subs, in response what you said about replying to the fact that he responds to all questions, he doesn't reply to any questions. I've sent him at least two or three, he hasn't responded to any. And like what Kouger said above, adminship, to me, is given away too quickly, and too easily. It seems that right now, all you have to do is win the HOTM, and you're an admin. They also don't look over the negative side of the user, which leads to situations like these. --   General5 7    talk    contribs    email   21:54, October 22, 2009 (UTC)
Are you suggesting that the Administration Team does not perform proper research on candidates' background? Also, have you asked him why he hasn't replied to your question? More importantly, has any Administrators (current or past) showed negligence (negativity) in their work? For all of these question, the answer is yes. To add to your comment "all you have to do is win the HOTM, and you're an admin": not all HOTM winners are administrators, thus making that comment unreliable/invalid. Just an update for all who didn't know, Simon rjh and EwCDnaudee419 resigned quite recently and we need someone with the perfect background to fill their positions. So, this is not some free candy.- 5əb'7aŋk(7alk) 23:08, October 22, 2009 (UTC)
If all HOTM winners became administrators, far more of you would be in. Every time we get RfAs, we get users complaining about there being too many administrators. We don't have too many - we don't have enough! Several are inactive, a couple have resigned. Others have school or some other event (read: work) that keeps us away from here for a long period of time. Polls and Quizzes need cleaning (have you seen the numerous blocks and deletions that I've been cranking out due to blatant violations of the Poll and Quiz policy!!!), unused and duplicate images need deleting, the place needs to be policed for vandals. We only have you guys' help for that LAST one. The polls and quizzes, I go through personally (though Nicmavr has been a really big help) and clean up. Image deletions, I (and it seems the entire administration team) rarely have time for. Also, I rarely talked to anyone before I was nominated to become an administrator. It's still rare for me to talk - I'm not a talkative person. I don't normally speak unless I'm spoken to. Some of you knew me from befriending me by contacting me. Others didn't hear of me until either my HOTM nomination, or my RfA. The fact that he doesn't talk much shouldn't be held against him. Evaluate him by his eligibility, his contributions, and the way he answers the questions below only - that's why we provide the links there. Maybe he hasn't gotten around to your questions yet, or doesn't have an answer right off. Don't be so quick to write him off for that. SmokeSound off! 00:32, October 23, 2009 (UTC)
I would be an administrator :D File:Commander Silver Leaf.PNG|28px]] Kougermasters (Talk) (Contribs) (Edits) 00:49, October 23, 2009 (UTC)
I meant the HOTM as in now, not always. The new Halo material comes out in, what, a year? Why does the RfA have to be now? You could let them gain more experience first, let more users get to know them, before throwing them into this right when they hit a level of "popularity".--   General5 7    talk    contribs    email   01:10, October 23, 2009 (UTC)
A comment from me seems to be in place. About why I'm not that socially active in here. What Subtank and Smoke. said kind of sum that up; The reason is because I simply like to keep socialization channels and wiki, as separate. Less random talk, such as posts like "hi", gives me more time to edit articles, which i see as the most important thing and the reason to be here, considering this is a wiki. I don't do this for myself; I do it to correct inaccuracies or add more information about a subject I like - that is, in this case, the Halo universe.
And General, and everyone else who hasn't always received a response, I apologise for not responding to some messages. Right now, I can't remember what it was, but no disrespect was intended. This is what people should know. Even if I don't respond sometimes, that doesn't mean i don't acknowledge the post or that i somehow despise the person who sent it. From now on, i'll try to respond to everything, because that seems to be pretty important after all.
Now, this isn't a testimony to try to get people to vote me for an Admin. I'm simply telling the reason i don't socialize that much, and to tell people I don't hate them just because I don't always respond. As i stated in my first comment, i don't consider myself to be really on par with the other candidates, who are clearly more experienced, plus they socialize a lot more. I don't hold any kind of personal grudges toward anyone who votes against me, or anyone else in here for that matter - I would've probably done the same, really. If being active in the community is a crucial requirement for adminship, or if some just see me as inexperienced, then I'm just not ready. --Jugus 08:12, October 23, 2009 (UTC)
Well ok, Jugus, Subtank, Smoke, and the others who opposed me. Maybe you are right. Maybe the same thing happened in many other RfA cases, including yours. I was wrong when I said "part of the community". He may alreasdy be, or he may become, if and when he becomes an admin. This whole text I put up, (might) be just a polite excuse for my own stasis on the RfA. However, I still don't see how Jugus is eligible for adminship. He has been here for a very short time, and as per Manticore, he does not meet the requirments, after all. I really like Jugus, I had nominated him for the HotM twice, before anybody knew anything about him. I don't have anything against him, and I would really like him to be my first "uber srsz friend". But he is not ready yet (in my opinion) for this huge task. Reread General's last comment. She said everything I was about to say in a perfect manner. - JEA13 [iTalk] 16:08, October 23, 2009 (UTC)
I can understand the votes against him saying that he's currently not eligible, due to him not meeting the requirements. My point, mainly, was that people seem to be holding the fact that he's not social against him. Then we have the usual crowd saying that we have too many administrators, without knowing the entire reason why Tony put these RfAs here to begin with. That was my problem. SmokeSound off! 16:31, October 23, 2009 (UTC)

What he is saying is that Manticore is an admin, and since Jugus doesn't meet the requirements, it needs an admin to close it. Since Manticore is an admin, he should close it. It that right? --File:Bat2.gif|45px]] General5 7 B OO! 00:27, October 26, 2009 (UTC)

Manticore doesn't care. However, I am looking at closing it - there isn't very much support and this may have been timed badly. I'll bring it to the other admins - if they make an exception, then so be it. SmokeSound off! 00:30, October 26, 2009 (UTC)

Questions

Nominee, if you accept the nomination, please answer the following questions. It is advised that voters check the nominee's responses before voting.

  1. When did you join Halopedia?
March 12, 2009.
  1. What do you believe are your most valued contributions to Halopedia?
Generally, overall improvement and creation of articles related to the story; Battle articles, locations articles, all that stuff. Keeping information up to date, cleaning stuff up. I rarely do multiplayer or gameplay-related content, other than in cases of grammar corrections, etc. And of course, occasional vandal fighting.
  1. What do you believe are your most valued technical contributions to Halopedia?
I rarely do technical stuff, so not really much here. Maybe the Mombasa locations template.
  1. What do you believe are your most valued contributions to the community?
I'm not really that active as a community member; So it's pretty hard for me to put anything in here.
  1. If you are administrated, what changes do you propose?
This is a hard one. Can't really say right now, but I'm sure a lot of stuff would come to mind. Mainly, I'd continue my work, only with unobstructed capabilities - those would obviously help my work a lot.
  1. To the best of your understanding, what does administratorship entail?
I see adminship as a role not so much of a leader; more of a guide to others and a member with a wider set of tools. Keeping the wiki up to date, making sure vandalism is dealt with. Most importantly, being responsible and trustworthy; an example to other users. Of course, having thorough understanding of the subjects you deal with.
  1. To the best of your understanding, when will you be able to check Halopedia after you are administrated, in the event that you are?
Almost every day. However, I am sometimes on leave for some weeks, but that's rare.
  1. What communities are you associated with online, Halo and otherwise?
Previously HaloBabies (years ago), and HBO to this day. Halopedia is really the only wiki I'm active on, but I'm a member on numerous forums and communities, even if only as an occasional poster.
  1. What is your familiarity with the Halo universe?
I'd been playing Halo 1 somewhat irregularly since it came out, but didn't really become a hardcore fan of the universe until somewhere around 2004-2005. I've read most of the novels, with the exception of Cole Protocol. Also, haven't really familiarized myself with the ARGs such as ILB, but i know the base plots.
  1. What is your familiarity with Wikia and Halopedia policies?
I'm familiar with the policies. Frequent editing kind of forces me to be aware of the policies and preferred style.
  1. What is your relationship with the Halopedia community and current administration?
It's pretty good. There have been no personal conflicts with anyone, maybe that's just because I'm not so active as a community member as I'm as in editing articles.
  1. How may users contact you?
By email, by board messages or talk page. I try to respond as quickly as possible.
