At some point after October 27, 2558, a Forerunner Guardian Custode was activated, emerging and causing immense devastation in New Hedmark, a city with an estimated population of 100,000 people.[3]
On October 28, 2558, following the Guardian's awakening, the Banished arrived at Laika III to secure the crate the Guardian awakened from for their scientists to study and began occupying the world, imprisoning the survivors of the Guardian's destruction at New Hedmark including Ilsa Zane. Ilsa Zane soon gained the favour of the Banished before the arrival of War Chief Escharum to what the Banished now call "Oth Voran", where the former Spartan offered the Banished War Chief her alligence and that of the New Colonial Alliance.[2]
