"My motto used to be... 'If you're feeling shitty about yourself...just imagine there is someone in the world in a worse situation than you.'"
— Myras Tyla recounting her personal motto to Ruwan Ackerson.[2]

Myras Tyla is a famous human styllight player. During the Covenant assault on Cleveland in 2552, she met Ruwan Ackerson and they attempted to escape the city together.[3]

Biography[edit]

Life as a musician[edit]

Myras Tyla became rich by the age of seventeen, likely due to her own efforts as an artist and styllight player. While Myras wrote some of her own music, most of her work consisted of covers of existing songs—something that she and her father often disagreed over, seemingly resulting in him exiting her life. After becoming famous, Myras would often do risqué photoshoots for magazines, something that she evidently became known for. Despite not intending to market her music to children, she would perform her music for kid's shows on several occasions.[1]

At some point prior to November 2552, Myras was working on writing a song called Dead Flowers, which she thought had the potential of becoming as popular as the song Juli Nights.[1] At this time, she was living in Paris with her boyfriend Philip, who had convinced her to travel to Cleveland, Ohio with him for a getaway.[3]

Battle of Cleveland[edit]

Main article: Battle of Cleveland

Myras and Philip were present in Cleveland when the Covenant invaded the city in November 2552. Upon the initial attack, Philip got in his Jeep and fled the city, leaving Myras there alone. Shortly after this, she met a hotel concierge named Ruwan Ackerson. Along with many other civilians, she and Ruwan were captured in an attempt by the Covenant to find the Key of Osanalan.[3] Escaping imprisonment, she internally considered her own place in the world, worried she had been nothing but "tits and ass" and promising herself to find her father and write real music. After a period of running, she used a scavenged plasma pistol to kill an Unggoy, which greatly surprised Ruwan. She reacted badly to taking a life, but Ruwan was able to placate her, and they shared a romantic moment, vowing to be married after the war.[1] Ruwan shared with Myras that he knew what the Key of Osanalan was, and that it was something he and his brother, James, had made up as children. While initially confused, Myras proposed the idea that James may have purposefully told the Covenant of the key to mislead them, forcing them to spare Cleveland and spend valuable time searching for the artifact—ideally to save his brother and slow down the Covenant attack.[2]

After being rescued by UNSC Marines and taken aboard a D77H-TCI Pelican along with other refugees, Myras met a young girl who recognized Myras, comparing her with an image on her holorecorder.[2] Myras and Ruwan informed the Marines of the true nature of the Key of Osanalan and they were escorted to an underground base in the sewers of old Cleveland. There, they met Sergeant Twyker and devised a plan to deceive the Covenant. Despite Myras' objections, Ruwan volunteered for the mission. He asked if she would write a piece of music about their experience and she guaranteed that she would. Ruwan was injected with Tykos 30, an organic tracking compound. Then, through back channels, they contacted the Covenant, offering them the Key of Osanalan in exchange for the Earth being spared. When the Covenant arrived at the arranged meeting point, they found Ruwan, who claimed that he himself was the Key of Osanalan. At this point, he was taken aboard the Harbinger of Piety to be questioned by the Minister of Inquisition. The UNSC then used the tracking agent in Ruwan's blood to pinpoint the warship and destroy it with a shot from Nassau Station.[4]

Following Ruwan's death, Myras Tyla was sent to a UNSC relief camp in Akron, Ohio, where she began to compose a song dedicated to him.[4]

Myras would survive the Human-Covenant War, eventually joined the Free Frontier Education as a narrator for the History of Meridian holo-film series.

Personality[edit]

Myras Tyla harbored deep regrets about her life as a musician. She regretted not writing more of her own music, like her father had urged her to long ago. She also regretted participating in risqué photoshoots, worrying that she would only be remembered for her body rather than her music. Additionally, she regretted performing her music for children. Myras hoped that her ex-boyfriend, Philip, who abandoned her during the Covenant attack, managed to escape Cleveland safely so that her face would haunt him the rest of his life.[1] As Myras and Ruwan attempted to evade Covenant capture, the two became very close. Unlike Philip, Ruwan had not abandoned her throughout the whole ordeal and he also liked her music. The two of them professed that they would marry if they both made it out alive.[2][4] Myras also promised herself that she would find her father and repair their relationship.[1]

Physical description[edit]

Myras has black hair and brown eyes. She has several tattoos—primarily in black ink—across her body, on her face, chest, and stomach.[1]
