The Eklon'dal Workshop Mortar Tank is a modified Muz-pattern Wraith used by the Banished.[1]

Overview[edit]

Design details[edit]

Main article: Muz-pattern Wraith

The Wraith designs built by the Eklon War-Forges are heavily modified Muz-pattern designs originally employed by the Covenant empire. They feature additional armor plating and spikes, tabbed corners on new plates, energy shielding, raw metals and "war paint" to reflect the Banished's aggressive mentality in comparison to older Covenant Wraiths.[3]

Armaments[edit]

Eklon'dal Workshop Wraiths are armed with a heavy plasma mortar and twin plasma cannons for use against ground and air targets. The plasma cannons are hidden underneath the armor. The mortar can be upgraded to a scorch mortar on select vehicles.[3][1]

Variants[edit]

Development history[edit]

The Eklon'dal Workshop Mortar Tank was one of the first Banished Wraiths ever produced.[1] The Foundry's garage and its kit assembly line allows Banished officers to requisition Eklon'dal Workshop Wraiths.[4]

Operational history[edit]

In March 2559 the Banished used Eklon'dal Workshop Wraiths against the crew of the UNSC Spirit of Fire on Installation 00.[2] In June 2559 stolen Wraiths were used by the Flood against the Banished during the Outbreak on Installation 00.[6] In October 2559 the Clan of the Long Shields used Wraiths against the Dhas Bhasvod's Covenant and Keepers of the One Freedom during the Battle of Epsilon Clarion.[7]

Gameplay[edit]

Halo Wars 2[edit]

  • Info: Core Tank, Heavy damage, Long range
  • Tier: 3
  • Cost: Population 6, Supplies 550, Power 75
  • Wraith upgrade:
    • Scorch Mortar
    • Info: New ability, Shots continue to cause damage after impact.
    • Tier: 3
    • Cost: Supplies 0, Power 850

Wraiths can be built at the Foundry by all Banished leaders. Unlike its Covenant counterpart from Halo Wars, the Banished Wraith in Halo Wars 2 starts off with an energy shield by default. Wraiths do well against infantry and vehicles, and okay against aircraft and structures. In Blitz Wraiths cost Blitz Energy 110 energy, Ironclad Wraiths cost Blitz Energy 140 energy, and Terror Wraiths cost Blitz Energy 150 energy. Ironclad Wraiths agro all nearby damage from enemy units and Terror Wraiths reduce enemy units armor.

Phoenix log[edit]

Heavy mortar tank.

The Wraith is a tank armed with a plasma mortar for long-range bombardment and short-range plasma cannons for engaging ground and air units. Wraiths in Banished service are fitted with energy shields. The Wraith's can be upgraded to fire a scorch mortar; the impact of this system's unstable plasma shells leaves a lingering pool of energy after impact.

Modified to fit the Brutes' warlike aesthetic, the Wraith serves the Banished as both a mainline tank and artillery piece. Armed with its distinctive plasma mortar the Wraith can shatter heavily reinforced defenses from long distances or engage closer targets with devastating barrages. Despite the Wraith's large size, its boosted gravity drive allows for impressive bursts of speed and surprisingly agile maneuvers over most terrain.

Notes[edit]

  1. ^ Given that Banished Wraiths were augmented from Covenant Wraiths, the "plasma mortar" listed in specifications of Banished Wraiths in the Halo Encyclopedia (2022 edition) were likely intended to be "heavy plasma mortars".
