Memorial Basin is a multiplayer map for Halo Wars, added by the Historic Battle map pack.[1][2]
It is the smallest 2v2 map with all starting bases in a tight rectangle with allies closest to each other. Between allies near the edge of the map is a Forerunner secondary reactor, and between opponents near the edge of the map are Forerunner supply elevators. Nearby each elevator is an extra building site. All of these sites are initially defended by rebels, but base build sites are unoccupied. In the center, there is a large deposit of supply crates as well as two crashed Pelicans that provide garrisonable cover for infantry, so it often becomes a highly contested spot. Dotted around the map are additional smaller covers made by crashed Warthogs. In total there are eight base slots with four on each side. Two near the center and one nearby behind each base forming an X with the cover at the center.
Strategy[edit]
- The cover at the center provides a good view of much of the map and most attacks must go by it making it a good way to intercept incoming attacks. A good way to attack the hill is to use units special abilities: a few RPGs will do a lot of damage. Also use Hellbringers to burn them out of cover.
- Many players will occupy every cover on the map even those near enemy bases making a near perfect defense grid to warn the player of enemy attacks as soon they leave the base. Also if the attack is not stopped by the time it arrives to the player's base it is nearly destroyed. Consequentially those close to enemy bases are taken early if playing against other human players.
- Early in battle there is often competition between between allies to take the secondary reactor so don't depend on it.
- It is often useful to wait till late in the battle to try and take the supply elevator, because if the enemy has it, their troops are likely not as strong or numerous as if it was occupied by rebels.
- It is useful to rely on air units or uber units because all non-starting base sites are in narrow canyons making large armies difficult to traverse.
Trivia[edit]
This map has the most starting supply crates and garrisonable covers of all Skirmish maps.
