Anti-personnel mines are a form of mines designed for use against humans as opposed to anti-tank mines, which are designed for use against vehicles.
 
 
Anti-personnel mines are a form of mines designed for use against Covenant ground forces as opposed to anti-tank mines, which are designed for use against vehicles.
 
This type designed to injure—as opposed to killing—as many enemies as possible in order to increase the logistical (mostly medical) support required by such an enemy force. Some types of anti-personnel mines can also damage the tracks on armoured vehicles or the tires of wheeled vehicles.
 
The mines can be classified into blast mines or fragmentation mines, the latter of which is often designed to be a bounding mine.

The Asteroidea anti-personnel mine is an explosive landmine used primarily by the United Nations Space Command.[1]

Asteroidea mines have eight arms and pressure triggers. They can be thrown through the air with ease and explode, producing shrapnel similar to the fragmentation grenade.[1]

Operational history[edit]

Asteroidea mines were used by Spartan-IIs during Operation: SMOKING ACES, and were used to kill General Howard Graves and a team of rebel commandos.[1]

Trivia[edit]

"Asteroidea" is the class to which sea stars belong, a reference to the mine's starfish-like shape.
