Independence is a Basilisk forward command-and-control craft in service with the Gao Space Navy. After President Arlo Casille ordered the Gao Ministry of War to move against the United Nations Space Command's 717th Xeno-Materials Exploitation Battalion on Gao, the battalion destroyed a Forerunner installation hidden within the Montero Cave System by activating a HAVOK tactical nuclear weapon. After the nuclear weapon's detonation, Casille and Minister of War Gaspar Baez scouted out the disaster aboard Independence on July 6, 2553.[1]
