The Muz-pattern Mortar Tank[1] (UNSC Type classification: Type-26 Assault Gun Carriage, T-26 AGC),[4] and more commonly known as the Wraith, is a Covenant armored infantry support/assault gun vehicle for ground engagements. Unlike most Wraiths the Muz-pattern will often feature a dummy module that operates twin anti-personnel plasma cannons. By 2550 the Covenant had seemingly stopped producing the Muz-pattern in favor of the Zurdo-pattern Wraith.[6][citation needed]
Overview
Design details
- Main article: Wraith
The Muz-pattern is one of two vehicles type-designated by the Office of Naval Intelligence as the Type-26 Wraith, the other being the more common Zurdo-pattern Wraith. Both vehicles overall feature an extremely similar chassis design, with a few minor morphological differences. The most major design differentiation that separates the two is their plasma cannons - the Muz-pattern features no separate gunner-operated plasma cannon ring mount atop the vehicle. As such, it instead relies on two medium plasma cannons automatically operated by dummy modules that free up the single driver's attention to focus on driving and operating the massive plasma mortar.[1]
Operational history
Muz-pattern Wraiths were used as artillery by the Prophet of Regret's forces during the Battle of Mombasa and later the Battle of Installation 05.[7][8] During the Battle of the Quarantine Zone the Flood made use of Wraiths against the Covenant, UNSC, and Forerunner Sentinels.[9]. At the outbreak of the Great Schism many Wraiths were used by the Jiralhanae and the Sangheili against one another on Installation 05's surface.[10][11]
By 2559 the Banished had modified their stock of Muz-pattern Wraiths aboard the Enduring Conviction for their campaign on Installation 00.[12]
