A holo-still of Carter-A259's parents.

A Holo-still, or Holostill, is a device that stores and displays a single three-dimensional holographic image. They are essentially an evolution of framed photographs.[1]

Use[edit]

Staff Sergeant Avery Johnson's aunt, Marcille Johnson, had many of the three-dimensional pictures hanging in her home alongside faded print photographs. Avery's favorite was one of Aunt Marcille standing on the shore of Lake Michigan in a honeybee-striped bathing suit and a wide straw hat. Another holo-still in the house depicted Avery as a young boy on his first day of church.[2]

Nils Thune, the planetary Governor of Harvest, had a large holostill that covered the western wall of his office at the Harvest Parliament Building in Utgard. The image displayed the early days of the colony and featured Nils as a happy overweight boy at a land development site, a site which later became part of Utgard Mall.[3]

Spartan Carter-A259 had a holostill of his parents who had perished when the Covenant attacked their homeworld of Biko in 2526.[4]

Captain Rion Forge kept a small holostill in her quarter's desk drawer aboard the Ace of Spades. It was a holostill that she had held onto since she was a child.[5] Her holostill contained the image of her father, Sergeant John Forge, sporting a cocky grin on his face that always made Rion smile. She stored the device alongside a data chip which contained old recorded messages he had sent home to her.[6]
