Quito has a long history, with its origins dating back to the pre-Columbian era when the local tribes founded a kingdom in the area. After the Spanish settlers arrived and quelled the remaining local resistance, the city of Quito was founded in 1534 and officially declared a city in 1541. Although it is unknown if the city was attacked by the Covenant during the Battle for Earth in late 2552, the tether was nevertheless amongst the four that survived the invasion.[1]
