Finale is the eleventh track in Halo 2: Original Soundtrack, Volume 2. It is composed of Great Journey (0:00-1:15) and Thermopylae Soon (1:15-3:10).
Overview[edit]
Great Journey[edit]
Great Journey (1:15) begins with a reprise of the opening high strings of Wage (from the earlier track Delta Halo Suite), and transitions into a reprise of the opening string melody of Impend. It plays over the ending cutscene of the level Uprising, when Thel 'Vadam meets Rtas 'Vadum, and both witness Tartarus taking Miranda Keyes to the control room of Installation 05. The piece concludes with a woodwinds-only version of Weight of Failure (from the earlier track Prologue) - this version plays during the opening cutscene of the level The Great Journey, when 'Vadam and 'Vadum discuss the plan to enter the control room.
Thermopylae Soon[edit]
Thermopylae Soon (1:50) begins with a short reprise of the "Halo 2 monk theme" from Penance (from Delta Halo Suite). Low strings enter, with high strings playing the opening of The Last Spartan. Low vocals join in, and the low strings transition to the buildup in The Last Spartan, and all skips the second section to the concluding crescendo. The piece plays over the game's final cutscene as Installation 05's firing sequence is aborted, 343 Guilty Spark explains the fail-safe protocol of Installation 05 and John-117 contacts Terrence Hood while onboard the Anodyne Spirit. The piece was rearranged into Finale 2, though excluding the opening reprise, in Halo Legends: Original Soundtrack.
