The Bandit is a human weapon due to be featured in Halo Infinite, which will be added in the upcoming Season 03: Echoes Within update. It is a precision weapon, designed to feel similar to the DMR as it appeared in Halo: Reach, but with the goal of making it more effective at closer ranges.[1]

Universe and lore

Main article: M392 DMR

Originally designed and manufactured by Misriah Armory, the M392 DMR is a semi-automatic rifle that first entered service with the UNSC Army in 2512.[2] It fires 7.62x51mm rounds that are fed by a detachable box magazine,[3] typically holding 15 rounds.[4] The M392 features a raised mounting rail for optics, and is commonly paired with an EVOS-D optical scope,[5] though can be used without a sight.[6]

The M392 served as a replacement to the older M295 DMR, also manufactured by Misriah,[7] and saw widespread adoption across many branches of the UNSC Armed Forces, including the Marine Corps, Army and Air Force. It saw action during the late Insurrection and well into the Human-Covenant War, despite diminished popularity after the introduction of the BR55 battle rifle. Although its replacement, the M395 DMR, broadly supplanted it, the M392 was still in service with Army and Marine reserve units,[2] circa 2558.

Production notes

The Bandit is due to be added to Halo Infinite as part of Season 03: Echoes Within. Despite this, evidence of its existence was discovered by dataminers several months before its release, and even before its initial unveiling, and footage of it leaked. 343 Industries acknowledged this when first announcing it.[1]
