Cortana's depiction of keyships departing to repopulate the galaxy
The reintroduction was a Forerunner project to restore life in the Milky Way galaxy following the activation of the Halo Array in 97,445 BCE. All species and specimens the Lifeworkers had collected over the years in the Conservation Measure were reseeded to their original home planets with the help of keyships during this event.[1][2] The reintroduction lasted for over a century, with humans as the first species to be reintroduced to their homeworld and the San'Shyuum being the last.[3]
SPOILERS
It is also worth adding that the Endless from Halo Infinite were stored this way, they were simply not released by any known Forerunner. Thus they were released by Atriox.
