The Finnegan's Wake was boarded by Lieutenant Jacob Keyes and a small contingent of ODSTs with the goal of enforcing The Cole Protocol. However, they were not aware that the Wake was an Insurrectionist ship, and so, when the charges placed on some of the supply crates in the bay went off, it killed or injured the majority of the small UNSC force. The explosion had created holes in the hull of the ship, thus venting atmosphere and causing ODST's(and Keyes, who had to take a suit from another ODST)who had been wounded with punctured armor to have little time left before they were killed in vacuum. Keyes evaluated the situation and made those ODSTs who had not been wounded in the blast put the wounded and dead into one of the supply containers in the bay which were air tight, he then made one of the holes in the bay's wall big enough to fit one of the supply containers. Keyes had found out by now that the Wake was rigged to blow and that they were luring in the Midsummer Night. He and the other ODSTs propelled themselves with there weapons into space along with the container. At that moment, the ship blew, killing many of the surviving ODSTs.
The blast killed and wounded many ODSTs and blew a hole in the Pelican, injuring the pilot, Jeffries. Lieutenant Keyes realized that he had to get the surviving ODSTs out before the remaining explosives were detonated. However, Keyes realized that the Insurrectionists had initiated the emergency signal to bring the Midsummer Night to the Finnegan's Wake. Keyes also realized that the Insurrectionists were jamming the communications between his group and the Midsummer Night. Keyes ordered that the dead and wounded ODST' be loaded into two separate crates, and that a hole be blown in the side of the ship.

After they made a hole in the side of the ship, Keyes jumped out into space, maneuvering around using his gun until he was far enough away from Finnegan's Wake to contact the Midsummer Night. The remaining ODSTs followed Keyes, and once the Insurrectionists realized what was happening, they detonated Finnegan's Wake and the entire ship exploded, killing several ODSTs. However, Keyes and many of the ODSTs escaped and were rescued by the Midsummer Night.

The Finnegan's Wake was a freighter used by Insurrectionists.[1]

Role[edit]

The ship and some of the cargo crates in its hangar were rigged with explosives. When a team of ODSTs and Lieutenant Jacob Keyes arrived on the ship via Pelican to make sure that the ship's navigation data had been deleted, the Insurrectionists detonated the crates.

Trivia[edit]

The ship is likely named after the 19th century Irish-American song or James Joyce's famous novel, although the latter omits the apostrophe in its title.
