The UNSC Iwo Jima was a destroyer in service with the UNSC Navy. During the Human-Covenant War in 2552, the Iwo Jima was assigned to Battle Group Omicron of the UNSC Home Fleet that was sent to aid the UNSC forces in the Onyx Conflict.
Background[edit]
The ship was part of Admiral Patterson's Battle Group Omicron and saw action at the Onyx Conflict. During the first engagement against Covenant ships in that battle, she grazed a Covenant carrier while attempting to disengage and crashed into two destroyers. The Iwo Jima then self-destructed, destroying the two enemy warships in the process.[2]
Namesake[edit]
- The ship's name refers to the Battle of Iwo Jima, which was fought between the United States of America and the Japanese Empire in February and March 1945, during the Pacific Campaign of World War II.
- The USS Iwo Jima, a Wasp-class Amphibious Assault Ship, is a warship in commission with the United States Navy.
