A Corporal in the [[UNSC]] [[Marine]]s, present at the battle of [[Sigma Octanus IV]], he assumed tactical command on the ground when all but a handful of veteran marines were killed by [[Covenant]] forces. Harland and his team were on a scouting mission when all but himself and three other marines ([[Private Cochran]], [[Private Fincher]], and [[Private Walker]]) were killed by the fuel rod gun of a [[Hunter]]. The four fell back to their HQ which were destroyed by covenant. Finally, Harland and his marines were relieved by [[Spartan]] forces who landed to destroy the covenant.

His fate ultimately is unknown, leaving only five possibilities:
They narrowly won a retreating fight against two [[Type-26 Ground Support Aircraft|Banshees]], where Harland attempted to destroy the Covenant fighters with the chain gun on the Warthog. He was unable to do so and the squad was saved by Cochran, who managed to shoot down both Banshees despite his injuries. Corporal Harland is a veteran of the UNSC Marine Corps during 2552. He assumed tactical command during the lopsided Battle of Sigma Octanus IV after his superior and commanding officers were wiped out by opposing Covenant forces.

Harland and three members of his squad, Privates Fincher, Cochran, and Walker encountered Covenant Hunters and retreated to Alpha Headquarters after realizing that Firebase Bravo and the surrounding area had been destroyed by the Covenant. While retreating, they were involved in a skirmish against some Grunts. They killed the Grunts, but Cochran was severely wounded by Needler rounds.[1]

They narrowly won a retreating fight against two Banshees, where Harland attempted to destroy the Covenant fighters with the chain gun on the Warthog. He was unable to do so and the squad was saved by Cochran, who managed to shoot down both Banshees despite his injuries.
