Griffin was a SPARTAN-IV supersoldier of Fireteam Taurus, of the United Nations Space Command.[1]
Biography
Post-war years
Over the course of the Post-Covenant War conflicts between 2557 and 2559, Fireteam Taurus (and thus, presumably Griffin) worked alongside John-117 and Blue Team several times.[1]
Liberating Reach
Fireteam Taurus were deployed onto Reach in October 2559, during Operation: WOLFE. Alongside Fireteam Intrepid, they were to aid Spartan Commander Sarah Palmer in securing the Viery Militia's nuclear weapons during the Battle of New Mohács - to ensure the weapons could not be used during the fighting and attract unwanted Created attention.[1]
Installation 07
Spartan Griffin was onboard the UNSC Infinity when it was ambushed by Banished forces upon arrival at Installation 07 in December 2559. He and the rest of Fireteam Taurus met up with the Master Chief and Captain Lasky while the latter two were on their way to the hangar and helped escort Lasky to a Pelican. They refused Lasky's offer to join him, electing to stay behind and organize the evacuation of the remaining Infinity crew.
Upon arriving Ring-side, Griffin led the other Spartans in attempting to destroy Banished artillery to give the UNSC survivors a chance to land. This came to an end when Cortana destroyed part of the Ring to stop Atriox and the Banished. Griffin took command of a large group of survivors and enacted the Rubicon Protocol; to stop the Banished on the Ring at any cost. They established a base in the ruins of the UNSC Mortal Reverie and conducted guerilla warfare against the Banished. After hearing a report from Spartan Kovan about Banished infighting after Atriox's death and how Escharum was the only thing holding their forces together, Griffin decided their best course of action was to eliminate the War Chief. He decided to send a four-Spartan team to assassinate Escharum, as the other Spartans would be needed to defend the Reverie. The Spartans drew sticks, as there were more than four volunteers. In the end, Griffin and Spartans Panago, Malik, and Sarkar were chosen as the team. Griffin left Spartan Vettel in charge of the remaining UNSC forces.
However, Escharum anticipated Griffin's actions. His forces ambushed the Spartan team, killing the other three and leaving Griffin badly wounded. Escharum taunted Griffin over radio, letting him know that he'd sent most of his forces to assault the Reverie. Griffin managed to warn Reverie before being captured by Escharum and handed over to Chak Lok for torture. He was stripped of his armor and placed in a device that put him in constant pain. Thanks to his warning, many of the UNSC survivors were able to flee the Banished assault, but without a base, they were scattered and most were hunted down over the next few months. Griffin would remain under Chak Lok's custody until John-117 freed him, dying in the Chief's arms after warning him the Banished were after the Conservatory.
