The UNSC Grafton (hull classification symbol: FFG-318) was a Paris-class heavy frigate in the UNSC Navy.[5]

Operational history

On August 12, 2552 during the Battle at Szurdok Ridge, Grafton provided fire support for UNSC Army forces engaging in combat in the Viery Territory, accompanied by the frigate UNSC Saratoga. During the battle, Grafton was authorized to utilize its Magnetic Accelerator Cannon to destroy a Covenant installation codenamed "Spire One".[5] Grafton succeeded in destroying the installation; however, with the dissipation of the spire's projected electromagnetic cloaking field, the Covenant supercarrier Long Night of Solace was revealed, hovering over the battle area. With its cloaking shield gone, the supercarrier opened fire on Grafton with its ventral energy projector, destroying the frigate with a single shot.[5]

Trivia

FFG-318 may carry on the lineage of HMS Grafton of the Royal Navy or USS Grafton of the United States Navy; the former is more likely as the nine ships named Grafton in British service have exclusively been fighting ships, such as cruisers, destroyers, and frigates, whereas those in American service have been support vessels. The frigate may also be named in honor of the Australian city of Grafton, New South Wales.
